The 12W7AE-3 is one of the most well-regarded 12" drivers in the market and it rewards a correctly built enclosure. JL's published ported spec is 1.75 cu ft. This box runs 2.25 cu ft net at 33Hz, which gives the driver more breathing room and produces a smoother, lower-tuned response than JL's minimum. Right call for a SQ-oriented build. Port area is 26 sq in, sized for the air displacement this driver produces at 29mm one-way Xmax at 1000W. Port geometry is CNC-cut. Consistent unit to unit. Baffle hardware is twelve-point #10-32 into threaded inserts through a 1.5" double-layer baffle. Same bolt pattern as the 13W7AE. Metal-to-metal throughout. Terminal cup pre-wired with 12g OFC. Connect your amp leads and go. The 12W7AE-3 is a single 3Ω voice coil. Amplifier sees 3Ω directly. No wiring decisions to make. Match your amp's rated output at 3Ω or 4Ω to the driver's 400W–1000W RMS range. Box is 34" × 14.5" × 15" external, ~65 lbs. The 15" depth is the dimension to verify against available trunk space. Yes. This enclosure is designed exclusively for the JL Audio 12W7AE-3. The internal volume, port tuning, port area, cutout diameter, and baffle bolt pattern are all matched to this specific driver. It is not a universal 12" box. Do not attempt to install a different driver without verifying cutout diameter (10.5") and mounting depth (9.5").
Why is the net volume 2.25 cu ft when JL Audio recommends 1.75 cu ft ported?
JL Audio's 1.75 cu ft recommendation is their minimum optimized ported volume. This enclosure runs 2.25 cu ft, a deliberate step above that minimum, sized relative to the driver's Vas of 2.33 cu ft. The additional volume at the same 33Hz tuning produces a lower, smoother response curve rather than a peaked output profile. For a SQ-oriented build where low-frequency extension and output smoothness are the priority, the larger volume is the right call.
What impedance does the 12W7AE-3 present to my amplifier?
The 12W7AE-3 has a single 3Ω voice coil. There are no wiring options. Your amplifier sees 3Ω directly. Most amplifiers stable at 4Ω will handle a 3Ω load without issue. Check your amplifier's rated output at 3Ω or 4Ω and match it to the driver's recommended power range of 400W–1000W RMS.
What does pre-wired mean exactly?
The Proline X terminal cup comes pre-wired with 12-gauge OFC speaker wire run from the terminal to the driver mounting location inside the enclosure. When you install the 12W7AE-3 and connect it to the internal leads, the wiring is complete. Connect your amplifier's speaker output to the terminal cup and the system is ready to run.
What makes the Professional Series different from other Proline X enclosure lines?
The Professional Series is built around individual drivers, not universal dimensions. Every build starts with the driver's published Thiele-Small parameters and works outward from there. The result is driver-specific airspace and port tuning, a 1.5" double-layer baffle minimum, threaded inserts matched to the driver's bolt pattern, extensive internal bracing, and Plush Black carpet as the standard finish. Other Proline X lines are designed to fit a class of drivers. The Professional Series is designed for one driver.
Is shipping actually included or are there fees added at checkout?
Shipping is fully included. What you see is what you pay, no freight charges, no handling fees at checkout. The enclosure ships via UPS Ground at approximately 65 lbs. Allow 2–5 business days for final assembly before it ships.
Will this enclosure fit in my vehicle?
The enclosure is 34" wide, 14.5" tall, and 15" deep. The 15" depth is the critical measurement for most trunk installations. Measure your available install space carefully before ordering. The 34" width is also significant and should be verified against your trunk opening and floor width.
Does the enclosure come assembled and ready to install?
Yes. The enclosure arrives fully assembled, carpeted, and pre-wired. Install the 12W7AE-3 into the baffle opening using the #10-32 machine screws into the threaded inserts, connect the driver's voice coil lead to the internal wiring, and connect your amplifier to the terminal cup. The driver is not included and must be ordered separately.
