Installer's take

The 12" height is the reason to choose the dual 8" over a dual 10" or dual 12" when space is the primary constraint. Most dual-driver enclosures in this output range run 14" to 16" tall: the dual 8" X Series comes in at 12" and still delivers the correct acoustic load for two Solo-X 8" drivers. That 2–4" difference is meaningful in behind-seat truck installs where floor-to-ceiling clearance is tight. Verify your specific cab clearance before ordering. 12" is the dimension to check. Two Solo-X 8" drivers wired correctly give you impedance flexibility. Two Single 2Ω drivers wired in parallel gives you a 1Ω final load. Two Single 4Ω drivers wired in parallel gives you 2Ω. Two Single 2Ω drivers wired in series gives you 4Ω. Plan your amplifier selection around the final impedance before ordering. Do not select drivers based on voice coil impedance without confirming your amplifier is stable at the resulting load. The triple-layer baffle at 2.25" is not overbuilt. It is correctly built for two motors. Two 225 oz. motor assemblies cycling against a front panel at high excursion generate more combined force than a dual-layer baffle is designed to handle. The third layer is the spec this application requires. At 65+ lbs this ships UPS Ground. Shipping is included. No freight line item at checkout. Lead time is 2–4 business days from order.

Questions

Is this a shared-chamber enclosure or does each driver get its own chamber?

The Pro KIK 8D is a shared-chamber ported enclosure. Both Solo-X L7X 8" drivers load into a single tuned volume with a common port. The 1.75 ft³ net internal volume and 38 Hz tuning are calculated for two drivers operating in that shared space, not for two independent chambers. Shared-chamber designs at this driver count and size produce a different acoustic result than two isolated volumes and are the correct approach for this application.

How do I wire two Solo-X 8" drivers in this enclosure?

Wiring depends on the voice coil impedance of the drivers you are running and the impedance your amplifier is stable at. Two Single 2Ω drivers wired in parallel gives you a 1Ω final load. Two Single 4Ω drivers wired in parallel gives you 2Ω. Two Single 2Ω drivers wired in series gives you 4Ω. Confirm your amplifier's stable output impedance before selecting your driver configuration. Do not select based on peak power rating alone. Contact us with your amplifier model and we will confirm the correct wiring plan before you order.

Why does the dual 8" use a triple-layer baffle instead of the dual-layer used on the single 8"?

Two L7X 8" motor assemblies cycling against the front panel at high excursion generate significantly more combined force than one. The dual-layer baffle at 1.5" is the correct spec for a single high-excursion motor. It is not adequate for two. The triple-layer baffle at 2.25" is what two motors at this power level require to stay inert under sustained output. It is not overbuilt. It is correctly built for this application.

Why choose the dual 8" over a single 10" or single 12"?

The primary reason is height. The Pro KIK 8D runs at 12" tall. Most single 10" and single 12" ported enclosures in this output class run 13" to 15" tall: and dual-10" or dual-12" configurations run taller still. If height is the binding constraint in your install, behind-seat truck builds and shallow trunk applications specifically, the dual 8" delivers more combined cone area than a single 10" in a lower-profile package. If height is not a constraint and you are choosing on output alone, a single larger driver may be the simpler solution. Contact us and we will help you choose the right configuration for your build.

What amplifier do I need for this enclosure?

The Solo-X L7X 8" is rated for 400–800W RMS per driver. Two drivers means you are looking at 800–1600W RMS total system input, depending on your wiring configuration and amplifier output at the resulting load. A high-current Class D monoblock with stable low-impedance output and a damping factor above 200 is the correct amplifier category for this build. We carry amplifiers from Goldhorn, Prodigy, and other brands in this power range. Contact us with your wiring plan and budget and we will give you a specific recommendation.

What is the lead time and how does shipping work?

Lead time is 2–4 business days from order across all X Series enclosures. The Pro KIK 8D ships at 65+ lbs via UPS Ground to the lower 48 states. Shipping is included in the price. No freight line item at checkout. Inspect the packaging before signing for delivery and photograph any exterior damage before opening.

Can I use this enclosure with a different 8" subwoofer brand or model?

Not recommended. The square baffle cutouts are machined specifically to the L7X platform geometry and will not accept standard round 8" drivers. Beyond the physical fitment issue, the internal volume and port tuning are derived from the Solo-X L7X 8" Thiele-Small parameters for two drivers running together. Running different drivers with different T/S parameters in this enclosure will produce results that deviate significantly from both drivers' optimal alignments. If you are running a different 8" driver, contact us with your specs and we will find the correct solution.

How do I confirm this will fit my vehicle before ordering?

External dimensions are 34" wide × 12" tall × 18.25" deep. Height is the primary advantage of this configuration. 12" clears behind-seat floor-to-ceiling clearance in most extended-cab and crew-cab trucks where taller enclosures will not fit. Measure your available install space at all three dimensions, accounting for wheel well intrusion, interior trim, and any hardware in the install area. Width at 34" covers most sedan trunk openings but verify before ordering. At 65+ lbs, two people are recommended for positioning and securing this enclosure. Contact us before ordering if you want help confirming fitment for a specific vehicle.
