Installer's take
This is an upfiring SUV-style build. The drivers mount through the top face and fire toward the headliner. The port exits the rear panel toward the gate. Both terminal cups are on the rear panel opposite the port. Wire from the gate area with both doors open before the enclosure is fully secured. Trying to reach the terminal cups after the enclosure is in position in a full-size SUV cargo area is difficult. Plan the wiring run before the enclosure goes in. The cargo floor needs to be flat and unobstructed across the full 46.5" width and 35" front-to-back depth. Wheel well intrusions, spare tire housings, and fold-flat seat mechanisms that leave hardware above the floor line will affect placement. Measure the actual usable floor area, not the door opening width. The enclosure also needs adequate clearance from the top face to the headliner for the drivers to operate, the L7X 15" has significant Xmax and the motor assembly is deep. Measure floor-to-headliner clearance at the driver location before ordering. Two 406 oz. motor assemblies in an upfiring orientation means gravity is working with the driver mass on the downstroke and against it on the upstroke. The triple-layer top baffle handles this correctly, the drivers are mounted into a rigid, non-flexing surface that does not contribute to the acoustic output. Secure the enclosure to the cargo floor anchor points. At 200+ lbs under sustained dual-driver output this enclosure will move if it is not anchored. Wiring: two terminal cups, one per driver. Run 8 AWG minimum from each cup to the amplifier. Plan your full electrical system before selecting amplifier power at 1000–2000W RMS per driver, two drivers at the upper end of that range is a significant sustained current draw. This ships freight. Lead time is 5–7 business days. Freight is included.
Questions
Why do the drivers fire upward instead of forward or rearward?
The Pro KIK 15D Solo X is designed for SUV and large-format vehicle cargo builds where a forward or rearward-firing orientation is not practical. In a full-size SUV, the cargo area between the floor and headliner creates a large acoustic space directly above the enclosure. Upfiring drivers pressurize that space efficiently, the output fills the cabin rather than being directed at a seat back or door panel. The rear-exiting port loads toward the gate opening, which is the most acoustically appropriate direction in this vehicle type. This orientation is purpose-built, not a compromise.
How do I wire two Solo-X 15" drivers in this enclosure?
Wiring depends on the voice coil impedance of the drivers you are running and the impedance your amplifier is stable at. Two Single 2Ω drivers wired in parallel gives you a 1Ω final load. Two Single 4Ω drivers wired in parallel gives you 2Ω. Two Single 2Ω drivers wired in series gives you 4Ω. Each driver has its own terminal cup on the rear panel. Wire each driver independently to the amplifier or use a distribution block. Confirm your amplifier's stable output impedance before selecting your driver configuration. Contact us with your amplifier model and we will confirm the correct wiring plan before you order.
What vehicles does this enclosure fit?
The Pro KIK 15D Solo X requires a flat, unobstructed cargo floor measuring at least 46.5" wide and 35" front-to-back. Full-size SUVs, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and comparable platforms, are the primary application. The 19.5" height requires adequate floor-to-headliner clearance above the enclosure for the upfiring drivers to operate without obstruction. Measure your cargo floor dimensions and floor-to-headliner clearance before ordering. Contact us with your vehicle make and model and we will help confirm fitment.
How does freight shipping work and what do I need to do at delivery?
The Pro KIK 15D Solo X ships at 200+ lbs via freight carrier to the lower 48 states. Freight is included in the price. The carrier will contact you to schedule a delivery appointment. Someone must be present to receive the shipment. This is curbside delivery only; the carrier will not bring the enclosure inside. Arrange assistance for moving it to your install location before the delivery date. Before signing the delivery receipt, inspect all packaging from every side and photograph it. If you see any damage, note it on the delivery receipt before signing. Do not sign a clean receipt for a visibly damaged shipment. Contact us immediately if damage is found.
What amplifier do I need for this enclosure?
The Solo-X L7X 15" is rated for 1000–2000W RMS per driver. Two drivers means 2000–4000W RMS total system input at full rated power, depending on your wiring configuration and amplifier output at the resulting load. A high-current Class D monoblock stable at 1Ω or 2Ω is the correct amplifier category for this build. At this power level, plan your complete electrical system, upgraded alternator, additional battery capacity, and appropriate wiring gauge from battery to amplifier, before selecting an amplifier. We carry amplifiers from Goldhorn, Prodigy, and other brands suited to this application. Contact us with your wiring plan and budget for a specific recommendation.
Is this a shared-chamber enclosure or does each driver get its own chamber?
The Pro KIK 15D Solo X is a shared-chamber ported enclosure. Both Solo-X L7X 15" drivers load into a single tuned volume with a common port. The 10.0 ft³ net internal volume and 30 Hz tuning are calculated for two drivers operating together in that shared space, not for two independent chambers. The port area at 140 square inches is sized for the combined displacement both drivers generate at sustained output.
What is the lead time for this enclosure?
Lead time for the Pro KIK 15D Solo X is 5–7 business days from order. At this size and complexity this build takes longer than the smaller X Series configurations. Once complete it ships freight. Freight delivery adds additional transit time depending on your location. Contact us after ordering if you need a more specific timeline estimate for your build schedule.
How do I secure this enclosure in my vehicle?
At 200+ lbs the Pro KIK 15D Solo X must be anchored to the cargo floor. An unsecured enclosure of this weight under sustained dual-driver output will move. This is both an acoustic problem and a safety issue. Most full-size SUVs have factory cargo floor anchor points or tie-down loops. Use appropriate rated cargo straps or fabricated mounting brackets to secure the enclosure to those points. Do not rely on friction or weight alone. If your vehicle does not have factory anchor points, contact a professional installer for a custom mounting solution before using the system at high output levels.
