Installer's take
Buying a Solo-X and putting it in a cheap box is a waste of the driver. The L7X 12" has real Xmax and needs real port area to avoid chuffing at sustained output. 44 square inches is what this driver requires at competition power levels. Generic prefab 12" boxes do not respect that number. This one does. The 22.75" depth is not cosmetic. The L7X 12" motor assembly needs that clearance for the Forced-Air Cooling system to function correctly under sustained high-power use. Restrict the motor clearance and you restrict the cooling, the driver runs hotter, power handling degrades, and longevity suffers. Verify your available trunk depth before ordering. 22.75" is the dimension that eliminates this enclosure from shallow applications. The triple-layer baffle is the correct spec for this motor. The L7X 12" generates more back-pressure against the front panel than any single driver in the lineup. A dual-layer baffle flexes under that load at sustained output. Three layers keeps the driver seated and the gasket sealed. At 60–70 lbs this ships UPS Ground on most orders. Shipping is included. For high-power builds in this class, run 8 AWG or larger from the terminal cup to the amplifier, the terminal cup accepts it. Lead time is 2–4 business days from order.
Questions
Why does this enclosure need to be 22.75" deep?
Two reasons. First, achieving 3.0 ft³ net internal volume with 44 square inches of port area in a 32" wide by 15" tall enclosure requires 22.75" of depth. There is no way to hit those acoustic targets in a shallower box without reducing volume or port area, both of which compromise the driver's alignment. Second, the L7X 12" motor assembly needs that depth for the Forced-Air Cooling system to draw airflow through the motor structure correctly under sustained high-power input. Restrict the clearance and you restrict the cooling. Verify your available trunk depth before ordering. 22.75" is the dimension that determines whether this enclosure fits your application.
Why does the single 12" use a triple-layer baffle when the single 10" uses a dual-layer?
The L7X 12" has a significantly larger and heavier motor assembly than the L7X 10", triple-stacked ferrite magnets, a 3" voice coil, and dual-spider suspension. That motor mass cycling against the front panel at high excursion generates more force than a dual-layer baffle is designed to handle at competition power levels. The triple-layer construction provides the mass and rigidity the L7X 12" requires. It is not an upgrade. It is the correct specification for this motor at this power class.
Can I use this enclosure with a different 12" subwoofer?
Not recommended. The square baffle cutout is machined to the L7X 12" platform geometry at 11-1/16" square and will not accept a standard round 12" driver. Beyond the physical fitment issue, the internal volume, tuning frequency, and port area are all derived from the Solo-X L7X 12" Thiele-Small parameters. Running a different driver in this enclosure will produce results that deviate from that driver's optimal alignment. If you need an enclosure for a different 12" driver, contact us with your driver specs and we will find the right solution.
What amplifier do I need for this enclosure?
The Solo-X L7X 12" is rated for 1000–2000W RMS depending on the variant and wiring configuration. Match your amplifier's RMS output at your wiring impedance to that range. A high-current Class D monoblock stable at 1Ω or 2Ω with a damping factor above 200 is the correct amplifier category for this driver at this power level. Plan your electrical system, alternator, battery, and wiring, to support sustained high-current draw before committing to amplifier power in this range. We carry amplifiers from Goldhorn, Prodigy, and other brands suited to this application. Contact us with your wiring plan and budget and we will give you a specific recommendation.
Why is the tuning frequency 31 Hz: the same as the single 10"?
Both the L7X 10" and L7X 12" Thiele-Small parameters point to 31 Hz as the optimal tuning frequency in their respective correctly sized vented enclosures. The 12" arrives at that frequency through a larger volume and larger port area, the tuning target is the same, the enclosure required to achieve it is significantly larger. This is not a coincidence or a templated spec: it is the result of independent calculations for each driver size that happen to share the same optimal tuning point.
What is the lead time and how does shipping work?
Lead time is 2–4 business days from order across all X Series enclosures. The Pro KIK 12 SX ships at 60–70 lbs via UPS Ground to the lower 48 states. Shipping is included in the price. No freight line item at checkout. For high-power builds in this class, run 8 AWG or larger wiring from your amplifier to the terminal cup, the cup accepts it. Inspect the packaging before signing for delivery and photograph any exterior damage before opening.
Do I need to break in the enclosure before running full power?
The enclosure does not require break-in. It is fully assembled and structurally complete when it ships. The driver, however, does benefit from a break-in period. Run the Solo-X L7X 12" at moderate power, roughly 50% of rated RMS, for the first several hours of use. The suspension components will loosen over time, improving excursion linearity and low-end output. Avoid sustained maximum power input during initial break-in. After 10–20 hours of use at moderate levels, the driver is ready for full power operation.
How do I confirm this will fit my vehicle before ordering?
External dimensions are 32" wide × 15" tall × 22.75" deep. Depth is the primary constraint at this enclosure size. 22.75" is more than most compact and midsize trunks can accommodate without the enclosure intruding into the rear seat area. Measure your available trunk depth from the back of the rear seat to the rear of the trunk at floor level. Also verify the trunk opening is wide enough to pass the enclosure through. 32" wide and 15" tall at the widest point. At 60–70 lbs, two people are strongly recommended for positioning and securing this enclosure. Contact us before ordering if you want help confirming fitment for a specific vehicle.
