Installer's take

Read the impedance line before anything else. The GT2 2010 is a single 3 ohm nominal coil at 2.8 ohm DCR. Two of them in this box wire to 1.5 ohms in parallel or 6 ohms in series. There is no 2 ohm or 4 ohm option, because the driver does not have one. If your amplifier is 1 ohm stable, go parallel and give it 800 to 1000 watts. If it is not, go series at 6 ohms and accept roughly half the amp's rated output. Settle that before the box ships, not after.

On the alignment. This is 1.2 cubic feet net for two drivers, which is 0.6 each, and that puts Qtc right at 1.05. It is a punchy box with a small lift in the upper 40s and an F3 of 36 Hz on the bench. Down firing into a trunk floor with cabin gain underneath it, that lift is exactly what makes the system feel like it hits above its size. I am not going to tell you it is a flat SQ alignment, because it is not, and the GT2's 0.61 Qts means no box that fits in a car would be.

The 8.5 inch height is the whole point. That clears the rear deck line on most full size sedans and sits under most cargo covers. Add the feet and you are at 10.25 inches to the top. Measure your 29.5 inches of width first, because that is the dimension that stops this build, not the height.

The feet ship with the box and are not predrilled, which is deliberate. Set them where they work for your floor. If you want to run the box forward firing instead, leave them off and stand it up. The nutserts are drawn in our CAD from the actual driver we measured on the bench, so the bolt circle and the cutout come off the ShopSabre in the same operation from the same origin. They cannot drift.

One install note. The 1.75 inch gap under the baffle is the working air path. Do not park a spare tire, a toolbox, or a folded moving blanket against it. Down fire boxes that sound dead almost always have something jammed under them.

What subwoofers does this enclosure fit?

This enclosure is built specifically for two Audiomobile GT2 2010 subwoofers. The 1.20 cubic foot net airspace, the 9.2 inch cutouts, and the nutsert bolt circle are all cut to that driver. It is not a generic dual 10 box and we do not recommend substituting a different 10 inch subwoofer, because the airspace and the mounting pattern will not match.

What impedance will two GT2 2010 subwoofers present to my amplifier?

The Audiomobile GT2 2010 uses a single 3 ohm nominal voice coil at 2.8 ohms DCR. Two of them wired in parallel present a 1.5 ohm nominal load, and two wired in series present 6 ohms. There is no dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm version of this driver. For parallel wiring you need a 1 ohm stable monoblock, ideally in the 800 to 1000 watt range. For series wiring most amplifiers will run 6 ohms but output drops to roughly 40 to 50 percent of the 1 ohm rating.

How does a down fire enclosure work and why would I choose one?

A down fire enclosure mounts the subwoofers on the bottom panel so they radiate toward the vehicle floor rather than into the cargo area. Four feet lift the enclosure 1.75 inches off the floor to create the air path the drivers need. The advantages are a protected cone that cargo cannot reach, a flat usable top surface, and the floor acting as a nearby boundary. The requirement is that the gap under the enclosure stays clear.

How tall is this enclosure with the feet installed?

The cabinet is 8.5 inches tall and the feet add 1.75 inches, so overall height with the feet installed is 10.25 inches. Full external dimensions are 29.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall by 16 inches deep. Measure the 29.5 inch width first, since that is the dimension that most often determines whether a full width enclosure will fit.

Can I use this enclosure forward firing instead of down firing?

Yes. The feet ship without predrilled mounting holes specifically so the enclosure is not locked into one orientation. If you want to run it forward firing, leave the feet off and stand the cabinet on the panel that suits your install. The acoustics of the enclosure do not change, only the radiation direction and the boundary the drivers see.

Does this enclosure come with threaded inserts?

Yes. We have the Audiomobile GT2 2010 in our shop and drew its mounting pattern in CAD from the actual driver. The nutsert locations and the 9.2 inch cutouts are machined in the same operation from the same origin on our ShopSabre, so they cannot drift relative to each other. The enclosure ships with 8 by 32 machine screws, and the drivers can come out and go back in repeatedly without damaging the baffle.

What kind of bass response should I expect from this enclosure?

Two GT2 2010 drivers in 1.20 cubic feet net produce a sealed alignment with a Qtc of about 1.05, a system resonance near 47 Hz, and an anechoic F3 of 36.4 Hz. That is a punchy, impact oriented alignment with a lift of roughly 1.5 dB in the upper 40s rather than a flat reference alignment. The GT2 2010 has a Qts of 0.61, which means no vehicle sized sealed enclosure can reach a 0.707 Qtc with this driver. Installed in a trunk or cargo floor, cabin gain reinforces the low end below the knee and the system plays with more weight than the bench numbers suggest.

How is this enclosure built and what is the warranty?

The cabinet is cut on our ShopSabre CNC from Langboard Elite MDF and assembled with V groove and dado joinery, with a double baffle and internal bracing. The Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite terminal cup is side mounted and pre wired with 12 gauge OFC, and polyfill is installed before the enclosure leaves the shop. Carpet is grey standard with plush black available. Every Performance Optimized Down Fire enclosure is built in Tullahoma, Tennessee and carries a 1 Year Limited warranty.
