Installer's take
Credit where it is due. Arc's recommended sealed volume for this driver is 0.75 gross, and running their own published T/S through the math puts that at Qtc 0.709. Textbook maximally flat is 0.707. They are two thousandths off. Most manufacturers in this program publish enclosure tables that miss their own driver parameters by a wide margin, so Arc getting it right is worth saying out loud.
The problem is that we cannot build it. The ARC 10 mounts 5.5 inches deep. After the flush recess baffle, the milled magnet relief and half an inch of clearance behind the motor, the minimum internal height is 4.875 inches. On a 30 by 15 footprint, 0.75 gross only needs 3.491 inches. The driver is taller than the box that volume makes.
I checked whether shaving clearance rescues it. Even at literally zero space behind the magnet the floor is 0.940 gross. Arc's number is out of reach on this platform by a wide margin, not by a hair.
So we build the smallest box the driver allows and take what it gives: 1.047 gross, 1.00 net, Qtc 0.631, F3 43.7 Hz. Against Arc's 43.2 that is half a hertz. Nothing. What you actually get is a more damped alignment with a lower system resonance at 38.5 Hz, which means a gentler corner and lower group delay. In a down fire cabinet feeding into cabin gain, that is arguably the better end of the trade anyway.
On the driver: 23.8 Hz Fs and 0.390 Qts on the D2 are strong numbers, and 16mm of one way excursion on a 250 watt driver is generous. Note the rating carefully though. 250 RMS with 500 musical is honest rather than inflated, and Arc's manual says plainly that running past RMS continuously burns coils and voids warranty. Do not feed this like a 500 watt driver.
Figures on this page are the Dual 2-Ohm. The Dual 4-Ohm column in Arc's manual does not extract cleanly, so we are not publishing numbers we have not verified.
Questions
Why is this enclosure larger than Arc Audio's recommended volume?
Because the driver is physically taller than the box Arc's volume produces. The ARC 10 mounts 5.5 inches deep, which forces a minimum internal cabinet height of 4.875 inches once the flush recess baffle, the milled magnet relief and motor clearance are accounted for. On a 30 by 15 inch down fire footprint, Arc's 0.75 cubic foot optimum would only require 3.491 inches of internal height.
That gap cannot be closed by trimming clearance. Even with zero space behind the magnet the smallest achievable volume on this footprint is 0.940 gross. So this cabinet is built at the minimum the driver allows, 1.047 gross and 1.00 net, and the resulting alignment is Qtc 0.631 with F3 at 43.7 Hz against 43.2 Hz at Arc's figure. Half a hertz of extension traded for a more damped alignment and a lower system resonance.
Are Arc Audio's published enclosure volumes gross or net?
Gross. Arc Audio labels every recommended enclosure volume in their manual as gross, for both sealed and ported designs, which is a less common convention than net and worth understanding before you compare their numbers to anyone else's.
Gross volume is the raw internal airspace before the driver, bracing and any port hardware are subtracted. Arc publishes the ARC 10's displacement at 0.05 cubic feet, so their 0.75 gross optimum is roughly 0.70 cubic feet of actual net airspace. Every volume we quote on this page is stated explicitly as gross or net so the two cannot be confused.
What does a Qtc of 0.631 sound like compared to Arc's 0.709?
Qtc describes how a sealed system behaves near its corner frequency. The textbook reference is 0.707, called maximally flat, which produces the flattest anechoic response. Below that a system is more damped: the rolloff slope is gentler, group delay is lower, and transient response is tighter, at the cost of a slightly earlier corner.
At 0.631 this cabinet sits meaningfully under the reference. In practice you get clean, controlled bass with no overhang and a gradual rolloff that integrates well with the rising cabin gain of a vehicle. The measurable difference in extension is half a hertz, 43.7 against 43.2, which is not audible. The difference in character is real but subtle, and it favours accuracy over the last fraction of a decibel at the corner.
How much power should I run to the ARC 10?
Arc Audio rates the ARC 10 at 250 watts RMS continuous with 500 watts musical, and lists an amplifier power range of 5 to 500 watts. Their manual is unusually direct about the distinction: the RMS figure is the recommended continuous power for long term use, the driver will handle roughly twice that in short bursts, and sustained operation above the RMS rating will burn the voice coil and is not covered under warranty.
Arc also notes that underpowering is not what kills subwoofers, clipping is. A modest amplifier driven cleanly is safer than a large one driven into distortion. If you hear the tone change to a dull thud or a popping sound, turn it down.
Do these figures apply to the Dual 4-Ohm version?
The alignment figures on this page are calculated for the Dual 2-Ohm variant, using Arc's published Fs of 23.8 Hz, Qts of 0.390 and Vas of 45.75 litres.
The enclosure fits both versions identically, since the cutout, mounting depth and displacement are the same. Coil variants of the same driver typically land within a few hundredths of Qtc and a hertz or two of F3 of each other, so the Dual 4-Ohm will behave very similarly in this cabinet. We have chosen not to publish specific Dual 4-Ohm numbers because that column in Arc's manual does not extract reliably, and we would rather state nothing than state something unverified.
Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?
Side mounted. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since the baffle faces the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.
How is this enclosure built?
V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which is what keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling.
The front baffle is a double layer at 1.5 inches, two bonded 3/4 inch sheets, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer. That recovers 3/4 inch of internal clearance on a 5.5 inch deep driver. A 3/8 inch relief is milled into the opposite panel behind the magnet. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill complete the build. Corners are square, which is the Down Fire series standard. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own ARC Audio ARC 10 in either coil configuration. The cutout, mounting depth and magnet clearance are all cut specifically for this driver.
