Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 14.2 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Installer's take
432.64 square centimetres of cone in a 10 inch footprint. A typical round 10 gives you 340 to 350. That is the entire Solo-Baric argument in one number, and unlike most marketing claims it holds up when you check the measurement.
Credit to Kicker on data. They publish a complete Klippel parameter set for every L7T, free, on a public page. Fs, Qts, Qes, Qms, Vas, Mms, BL, Cms, Re, Sd, Xmax, and the fitting error on the measurement. Almost nobody in this program does that.
The useful finding on this driver is that box size barely matters for extension. At 0.60 net you get F3 51.3 Hz. At 0.80 net you get 51.3 Hz. The corner drops as the box grows but the rolloff shape flattens out to compensate, so the curves cross. Since bigger buys nothing, we build the smallest volume the driver's 3 3/4 inch depth allows and the cabinet comes in at 5.375 inches. Shortest sensible box, best available alignment, no tradeoff to explain.
Qtc 0.746 is four hundredths off textbook maximally flat. Clean and controlled with no overhang.
Be honest about the 51 Hz though. This is not a driver you buy for anechoic depth, and if you cross shop it against a shallow 12 on paper the 12 wins. What the L7T gives you is a very large cone with 14.2mm of travel behind it in three and three quarter inches of depth, firing into cabin gain. In a truck cab that is a genuinely different result from what the spec sheet suggests.
One thing Kicker does not publish anywhere is driver displacement. Not on the product page, not in the T/S set, not on the dimension drawing. The 0.07 cubic feet in our net figure is our estimate from the square cutout and mounting depth, and it is labeled as such on the page rather than presented as their number.
Cut the baffle square. The corners of an L7T cone are the reason it works, and a round hole leaves them unsupported.
Questions
Is the baffle cutout actually square?
Yes. The baffle is machined with a 9 5/16 inch square opening cut to Kicker's own published CNC template, including the corner radii the L7T basket expects. It is not a round hole that a square driver sits over.
That matters structurally as well as cosmetically. The corners of a square cone are exactly where the extra radiating area lives, and a round cutout would leave those corners overhanging unsupported baffle edge. Cutting to the correct square profile is also what allows a flush recess to seat properly on this driver.
Why is this cabinet only 5.375 inches tall?
Because a larger cabinet would not improve anything. The L7T 10 produces an F3 of 51.3 Hz at 0.60 cubic feet net, and an F3 of 51.3 Hz at 0.80 cubic feet net. The corner frequency drops as the box grows but the rolloff shape flattens to compensate, so the two responses cross and extension is effectively unchanged.
Given that, the right move is the smallest volume the driver physically allows. The L7T 10 mounts 3 3/4 inches deep, which sets a minimum internal height of 3.125 inches once the flush recess baffle and motor clearance are accounted for. That works out to 0.60 net on the 30 by 15 inch platform, and a cabinet 5.375 inches tall instead of 6.5.
Why is the F3 higher than on your shallow 12 inch enclosures?
Because the L7T 10 has a free-air resonance of 30.35 Hz, and a sealed enclosure always raises the system corner above the driver's own Fs. Shallow 12 inch drivers with resonances in the mid 20s will always reach deeper anechoically. That is a driver property, not an enclosure one.
That comparison is fair on a bench and misleading in a vehicle. This cabinet fires down into the floor, so the sealed rolloff meets rising cabin gain below 60 Hz and in-car response extends well below the anechoic figure. What the L7T brings is 432.64 cm² of square cone and 14.2mm of excursion in a 3 3/4 inch mounting depth, which is a large amount of displacement for the space it occupies.
Where does the driver displacement figure come from?
From us, and we would rather say so than let it look like a manufacturer number. Kicker does not publish a driver displacement figure for the L7T anywhere: not on the product page, not in the Thiele-Small parameter set, and not on the dimension drawing.
The 0.07 cubic feet used in the net volume calculation is our own estimate, derived from the square cutout dimension and the 3 3/4 inch mounting depth. Every other figure on this page comes from Kicker's published Klippel data. If Kicker publishes a displacement figure later we will update this page and the volume with it.
How much power should I run to the L7T 10?
Kicker recommends 500 watts RMS of amplifier power, with a peak rating of 1000 watts measured per ANSI/CTA-2031-A. That standard matters: it is a defined measurement method rather than a marketing figure, so the peak number means something.
On sensitivity, Kicker publishes 85.98 dB while their own Klippel measurement reports 85.645 dB characteristic SPL. Treat mid 85 as the working number. Kicker's own guidance is that the recommended power assumes typical music with minimal amplifier clipping, so a clean 500 watts is worth more than a distorted 700.
Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?
Side mounted. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since the baffle faces the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.
How is this enclosure built?
V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which is what keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling.
The front baffle is a double layer at 1.5 inches, two bonded 3/4 inch sheets, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer. The opening is cut square to Kicker's published template. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill complete the build. Corners are square, which is the Down Fire series standard. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
