Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.
02What the box does to it
0.89 cu ft against a 23.0 L Vas.
03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)
Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 9.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Installer's take
The SCX102 is not a shallow driver, and that shapes this cabinet more than the acoustics do. Mounting depth is 5.26 inches, where most drivers in the Down Fire program run between 2.4 and 3.65. That is the number that determines how tall this box has to be.
Here is how the fitment math actually works, because it is not obvious. The front baffle is a double layer at 1.5 inches, but the outer 3/4 inch layer is machined as a flush recess and the driver bolts to the inner layer. So the mounting plane sits 0.75 inches down from the outer face, and only 4.51 inches of driver protrude into the airspace. We then mill a 3/8 inch relief into the opposite panel directly behind the magnet, which recovers a bit more. Add half an inch of clearance behind the magnet vent and the minimum internal height lands at 4.625 inches.
That works out to 0.89 net, slightly above Morel's 0.8 recommendation. The volume here is a byproduct of fitting the motor, not a design choice. Fortunately it goes the right direction: Qtc lands at 0.921 rather than the 0.986 Morel's spec produces, so the alignment is marginally better damped with no cost in extension.
On the driver itself, the 5.1 inch voice coil is the standout. That is the same diameter Morel uses in the PowerSlim series and it is enormous for a 10. It is the reason this driver takes 500 watts continuously with 1500 watts of transient headroom. Multi-layer paper and carbon fiber cone on a Hexatech aluminium former, double ferrite vented motor.
Morel's published data checks out. Their stated 48 Hz F3 at 0.8 net computes within about a hertz from their own Qts and Vas. That is not universal in this category and it is worth noting.
If you want the same brand in a genuinely shallow package, look at the PowerSlim PS104D instead. It mounts in 3.1 inches and its cabinet is 4.9375 tall against this one's 6.875.
Questions
Why is this enclosure larger than Morel's recommended 0.8 cubic feet?
Because the driver's mounting depth sets the minimum cabinet height, not the target volume. The SCX102 mounts in 5.26 inches. On our double baffle the outer 3/4 inch layer is a flush recess and the driver bolts to the inner layer, so 4.51 inches of driver protrudes into the airspace. We mill a 3/8 inch relief into the opposite panel behind the magnet and leave half an inch of clearance behind the magnet vent, which puts the minimum internal height at 4.625 inches. That works out to 0.89 cubic feet net.
The extra volume is acoustically beneficial rather than a compromise. Qtc lands at 0.921 instead of the 0.986 Morel's 0.8 figure produces, which is slightly better damped with no loss of extension.
How does the SCX102 compare to the Morel PowerSlim PS104D?
The main difference is depth and power. The PS104D is a true shallow driver at 3.1 inches mounting depth with 700 watts RMS, and its Down Fire cabinet stands 4.9375 inches tall. The SCX102 mounts in 5.26 inches with 500 watts RMS, and this cabinet stands 6.875 inches.
Acoustically the SCX102 has a higher free-air resonance at 38.8 Hz against the PS104D's 29.1 Hz, so the PowerSlim reaches somewhat lower. Both use the same 5.1 inch voice coil. If vertical clearance is tight or you want maximum power handling, the PowerSlim is the better choice. The SCX102 suits installs where the extra two inches of height is available.
What is the milled magnet relief and why is it there?
A 3/8 inch deep circular pocket machined into the panel directly behind the driver's magnet. On a down fire cabinet built around a driver this deep, that relief recovers useful clearance without adding cabinet height.
It matters for two reasons. First, it guarantees the vented motor has room to breathe rather than being crowded against a flat panel. Second, it lets the cabinet stay as short as possible while still leaving half an inch of clearance behind the magnet vent, which is what we consider the practical minimum for a driver at this power level.
Do your numbers match the Morel manual?
Closely, yes. Morel publishes an F3 of 48 Hz at their recommended 0.8 cubic feet net. Running their own published Qts of 0.64 and Vas of 23 liters through standard sealed box math at that volume produces a result within about a hertz of their figure. Their enclosure data and their Thiele-Small data agree with each other.
Several manufacturers in this category publish enclosure tables that do not reconcile with their own driver parameters, sometimes by 10 Hz or more. Morel is among the better ones on this front.
Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?
Side mounted. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since the baffle faces the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.
Why are the corners square instead of radiused?
Down Fire cabinets are built with square corners as a series standard. The 3 inch top down corner radius used on other Proline X alignments does not apply here. A down fire box is a low, wide platform that sits flat against a floor or under a seat, and square corners maximize usable internal volume for a given footprint while keeping the cabinet stable on its mounting surface.
How is this enclosure built?
V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which is what keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling.
The front baffle is a double layer at 1.5 inches, two bonded 3/4 inch sheets. On this cabinet the outer layer is machined as a flush recess and the driver bolts to the inner layer, which recovers 3/4 inch of internal clearance for a deep driver. A 3/8 inch relief is milled into the opposite panel behind the magnet. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill complete the build. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Is the Morel SCX102 subwoofer included with this enclosure?
No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own Morel Ultimo SCX102. The cutout, mounting depth and magnet clearance are all cut specifically for this driver.
