Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 19.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Installer's take
19mm of one-way linear excursion. That is the highest Xmax figure in this entire program, across every driver family we have built for, and it is not close. Most 10s in this line run 11 to 15mm.
The W6v3 is JL's flagship automotive subwoofer and it shows in the spec sheet. Six US patents on motor and suspension design, 600 watts RMS continuous per driver, and a 6.3 inch magnet. This is not a driver that was value-engineered.
Here is what makes this specific cabinet worth building. The W6v3 mounts 6.89 inches deep, which forces a minimum internal height on any down fire box. Once you split that cabinet into two chambers, each driver ends up with 0.58 cubic feet net. JL recommends 0.55. We landed on their number by accident, through pure fitment geometry.
Run the math and it confirms itself. Our computed Qtc is 0.797 against JL's published 0.8099. Our Fc is 46.8 against their 47.55. Our F3 is 42.1 against their 42.27. Two tenths of a hertz apart on the F3. That is the closest agreement between our numbers and a manufacturer's numbers anywhere in this program.
One detail from the JL manual worth knowing: they explicitly specify 0.50 inches of required pole-vent clearance behind the motor. That happens to be exactly the clearance figure we build to on every deep-driver Down Fire cabinet. Their engineering requirement and our shop standard are the same number, which is reassuring on a driver with a vented pole this large.
Wiring uses JL's terminal jumper system. Both voice coils must be connected or the driver will not work. Factory configuration is parallel at 2 ohms per driver, with series giving 8 ohms. Wire both drivers identically. 1200 watts RMS across the pair.
Questions
Does this cabinet match JL Audio's recommended enclosure?
Almost exactly. JL Audio recommends 0.55 cubic feet net per 10W6v3-D4 and publishes the resulting alignment as Qtc 0.8099, Fc 47.55 Hz and F3 42.27 Hz.
Each chamber in this enclosure gives 0.58 cubic feet net, producing a computed Qtc of 0.797, Fc of 46.8 Hz and F3 of 42.1 Hz. That is within two tenths of a hertz of JL's own published F3. The slight extra volume comes from the driver's 6.89 inch mounting depth setting the minimum cabinet height, and it moves the alignment marginally in the better-damped direction.
What does 19mm of Xmax actually mean?
Xmax is how far the cone can travel in one direction while the voice coil stays fully within the magnetic gap, which is the region where the driver behaves linearly. Beyond Xmax the motor force falls off and distortion rises sharply.
At 19mm one-way, the 10W6v3-D4 has the highest figure of any driver in the Proline X Down Fire line. Most 10 inch subwoofers here run between 11 and 15mm. Since output at low frequencies is a function of cone area multiplied by excursion, that extra travel is where a 10 inch driver gets the ability to move air like a larger one. It is a large part of what separates the W6v3 from JL's own W3 series.
Why two separate chambers instead of one shared volume?
Because two drivers in a shared sealed volume interact acoustically. Each driver's compression phase becomes the pressure environment the other driver is working against, which smears transient response and blurs the alignment each would have on its own. A full-height bonded 3/4 inch MDF divider eliminates that completely.
Each 10W6v3-D4 gets its own 0.58 cubic feet net, effectively JL Audio's own recommended volume, plus its own polyfill. Separate chambers are the standing design rule on every Proline X dual sealed enclosure.
How do I wire the W6v3 terminal jumper system?
The W6v3 uses a pair of main input push terminals plus four voice coil configuration tabs behind them. Both voice coils must be connected or the driver will produce no output and may be damaged. JL supplies the jumpers.
Parallel is the factory configuration and gives 2 ohms per driver, using two jumpers. Series gives 8 ohms per driver, using one jumper. Set both drivers identically, then connect the enclosure's shared side-mounted terminal cup, which is pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC to both driver positions in parallel. Verify the resulting load against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before powering the system.
How is the cabinet height determined on this build?
By driver depth. The 10W6v3-D4 mounts 6.89 inches deep, and JL Audio explicitly specifies 0.50 inches of required pole-vent clearance behind the motor.
Our double baffle recovers 0.75 inches of that depth, since the outer layer is machined as a flush recess and the driver bolts to the inner layer. A 3/8 inch relief milled into the opposite panel behind each magnet recovers a little more. Honoring JL's half-inch pole-vent clearance, the minimum internal height works out to 6.3125 inches, which is an 8.5625 inch external cabinet. The chamber divider runs vertically, so splitting the box into two chambers does not change the depth requirement at all.
Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?
Side mounted, and there is one cup serving both chambers rather than one per chamber. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since both baffles face the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.
How is this enclosure built?
V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which keeps both chambers airtight under sustained pressure cycling. The chamber divider is a full-height bonded 3/4 inch panel.
Front baffles are double-layer at 1.5 inches at both driver positions, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so each driver bolts to the inner layer. A 3/8 inch relief is milled behind each motor. That rigidity matters with two 600 watt drivers bolted to the same cabinet. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill in each chamber complete the build. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
