This enclosure holds 1.00 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Image Dynamics IDQ10 V4 runs a system Qtc of 1.09–1.15 with half power at 41.5–43.5 Hz, and the cone reaches its 14.5 mm travel limit at 539 W, above the driver’s 500 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 545 W — +6 W, or 1 percent more power for the same 14.5 mm of travel.

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 14.5 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 14.5 mm. Unfiltered that is 539 W, reached first at 44 Hz. It sits above the 500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 545 W before hitting the same 14.5 mm. That is 1 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

Two IDQs in a properly sized common chamber is one of the most underrated SQ moves you can make. Single 10s win on stealth and footprint. Single 12s win on output per driver. But a pair of 10s, and the IDQ10 V4 specifically, hits a sweet spot that most installers don't think about until they've heard one in their own vehicle. The math is simple. Two 10s have more total cone area than a single 12. More cone area at the same SPL means each driver moves less. Less excursion means lower distortion, less thermal compression, and a presentation that sounds easier. Like the system isn't working as hard. With the IDQ specifically, that translates to a midbass region that stays clean even at volumes where a single 10 would start to sound stressed. The 2.0 cu ft total volume is what makes it work. With both drivers sharing the cabinet, each IDQ effectively operates against 1.0 cu ft of airspace. Exactly where Image Dynamics specifies the IDQ10 V4 wants to live for SQ-oriented sealed performance. Smaller volumes drive Qtc up and tighten the response too far, larger volumes loosen it. 2.0 cu ft total, 1.0 cu ft per driver, lands the pair in the same Qtc target the single does. Just with twice the cone area doing the work. A common chamber design works because matched IDQ10 V4 pairs from the same production run have tightly controlled parameters. Questions

Why a common chamber instead of two separate chambers?

Two IDQs from the same production run have tightly controlled Thiele-Small parameters. Image Dynamics' QC keeps them consistent enough that they load symmetrically in a shared 2.0 cu ft cabinet without fighting each other. A common chamber gives the pair effectively 1.0 cu ft per driver, which is exactly where the IDQ10 V4 is specified to perform best. Chambered designs are worth the cost when you're pairing drivers from different production runs or running mixed brands with looser tolerances. With matched IDQs, the common chamber works correctly and keeps the cabinet simpler and lighter.

Can I run just one IDQ in this enclosure if I'm only buying one driver?

You can run a single IDQ in the empty chamber temporarily, but it's not the ideal use case. The 2.0 cu ft volume is sized for two drivers, so a single IDQ in the cabinet operates against twice its specified airspace, which loosens Qtc, drops F3 too far, and gives you a softer, less controlled bottom end. If you only plan to run one IDQ10 V4, the single Performance Optimized Sealed 10 is the right product. If you want the option to add a second IDQ later, install one driver now and seal off the empty cutout temporarily, then complete the pair when ready.

What's the maximum amplifier power I can run with two IDQ10 V4s?

The IDQ10 V4 is rated 500 watts RMS per driver. Two drivers in this enclosure can handle a clean, well-regulated 1000 watts RMS combined. 500 watts per driver. Push past that and you're risking thermal compression on the voice coils and mechanical stress beyond what the suspension is rated for. Stick with amplifiers that are honestly rated and properly powered (regulated power supply, low THD).

How should I wire two Dual 2-ohm IDQs vs two Dual 4-ohm IDQs?

Two Dual 2-ohm IDQs: each driver's coils in parallel = 1 ohm per driver. Two 1-ohm drivers in series = 2 ohms combined. Two 1-ohm drivers in parallel = 0.5 ohm combined (most amps won't handle this. Check your amp). Two Dual 4-ohm IDQs: each driver's coils in parallel = 2 ohms per driver. Two 2-ohm drivers in series = 4 ohms combined. Two 2-ohm drivers in parallel = 1 ohm combined. Pick the impedance version based on what your amp is stable at. Dual 4-ohm is the more flexible choice for most setups.

Will the threaded inserts work with the IDQ10 V4's mounting hardware?

Yes. Both baffles use 8/32 threaded inserts pressed into the backside, which match the IDQ10 V4's standard mounting hardware. The enclosure ships with stainless steel mounting screws sized for the IDQ, drop the drivers in, hand-thread the supplied hardware, done.

Can I run different 10" subwoofers in this enclosure?

You can, but you'll be giving up the driver-specific tuning advantage. The 2.0 cu ft net volume and 9.57" cutouts will accept many 10" subwoofers, but the airspace was selected specifically for a pair of IDQs. Why is the dual cabinet 12.5" deep when the single is only 8.5" deep?

The 12.5" depth gives the cabinet enough internal volume to hit 2.0 cu ft net in a 28" wide x 14" tall footprint. The single Sealed 10 only needs 1.0 cu ft, which is achievable in a shallower 8.5" depth at the smaller 20" wide footprint. Different total volumes require different cabinet geometries, same per-driver airspace target, scaled to the cabinet size needed for the driver count.

Does the matched pair bundle save me money vs ordering drivers separately?

Yes. Sourcing a matched pair of IDQ10 V4s separately means two shipping charges and the hassle of finding two from the same production run. The bundle ships everything together, the cabinet, both drivers, all hardware, in one delivery. Pricing on the bundle reflects volume pricing on the drivers compared to ordering them as standalone items.
