This enclosure holds 1.00 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Image Dynamics IDQ10 V4 runs a system Qtc of 1.09–1.15 with half power at 41.5–43.5 Hz, and the cone reaches its 14.5 mm travel limit at 539 W, above the driver’s 500 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 545 W — +6 W, or 1 percent more power for the same 14.5 mm of travel.

The box lifts resonance from 42.0 Hz free-air to 56–57 Hz and half power lands at 41.5–43.5 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 14.5 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 14.5 mm. Unfiltered that is 539 W, reached first at 44 Hz. It sits above the 500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 545 W before hitting the same 14.5 mm. That is 1 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

The IDQ10 V4 is one of those drivers where the box matters more than people think. It's a well-mannered SQ sub, but it rewards the right alignment and punishes a sloppy one. Run it in a generic 10" sealed box and you'll get something that sounds fine. Run it in a properly tuned 1.0 cubic foot sealed cabinet built around its T/S parameters and you start to hear what the V4 was actually engineered to do. This box lives in that sweet spot. The IDQ wants somewhere between 0.6 and 1.1 cubic feet. I've built and listened to both ends of that range, and 1.0 is where the driver disappears into the music. Tight enough to keep the cone in mechanical control, open enough that the low end has room to breathe. F3 lands where you want it for SQ work, and the transient response on kick drums and acoustic bass is honest. No port chuffing to clean up, no peaky midbass hump to EQ around. The threaded inserts are non-negotiable for me at this price point. Anyone who's pulled an IDQ out of a screw-mounted box after a few years knows what stripped MDF looks like, the inserts solve that permanently. Same story with the pre-wired terminal cup; one less thing to fight when you're running power back to the amp rack. A note on the IDQ's field-replaceable cone: if you ever do toast one (you probably won't), you can swap the cone without pulling the driver out of this enclosure. That's a small thing that becomes a big thing the day you need it. Pair this with a clean 500-watt RMS amplifier and a DSP that can high-pass it around 30 Hz, and you've got a sealed system that will out-perform a lot of much more expensive setups on real music.

Questions

Why does this enclosure cost more than a generic 10" sealed box?

This enclosure is engineered around the published Thiele-Small parameters of the Image Dynamics IDQ10 V4. Internal volume, baffle thickness, and bracing are all tuned to that specific driver. You're paying for driver-matched engineering, threaded inserts, the Proline X composite terminal cup with pre-wired 12-gauge OFC, and CNC-precision construction in our Tennessee facility. A generic box is cut to fit a class of drivers; this one is cut to fit one driver.

Will the threaded inserts work with the IDQ10 V4's mounting hardware?

Yes. The baffle uses 8/32 threaded inserts pressed into the backside, which match the IDQ10 V4's standard mounting hardware. The enclosure ships with stainless steel mounting screws sized for the IDQ, drop the driver in, hand-thread the supplied hardware, done.

Can I run a different 10" subwoofer in this enclosure?

You can, but you'll be giving up the driver-specific tuning advantage. The 1.0 cu ft net volume and 9.57" cutout will accept many 10" subwoofers, but the airspace was selected specifically for the IDQ's parameters. If you have a different 10" sub, our standard Performance Series Single 10 is built for universal fitment and may be a better match. What amplifier power should I pair with the IDQ10 V4 in this box?

The IDQ10 V4 is rated for 500 watts RMS. Aim for a clean, well-regulated amplifier delivering 400 to 500 watts at the IDQ's coil impedance. Dual 2-ohm wired in parallel gives you 1 ohm, Dual 4-ohm wired in parallel gives you 2 ohm. Skip the cheap "1000-watt peak" units; the IDQ rewards clean power, not big numbers on the box.

Does the acrylic insert color affect performance?

The acrylic insert is purely cosmetic. Black, Blue, Red, and White are functionally identical. Pick what matches your build.

What's the difference between Performance Optimized and the standard Performance Series Single 10?

The standard Performance Series Single 10 is built for universal 10" driver fitment: a great box for a wide range of sealed-friendly 10" subs. The Performance Optimized Sealed 10 for IDQ is engineered specifically around the IDQ10 V4's airspace requirements and physical dimensions. Same Performance-tier construction, but the geometry is locked to one driver. If you've chosen the IDQ, this is the better box. If you're still deciding on a driver, start with the standard Performance Series.

How do I wire the IDQ10 V4 if I order the dual 2-ohm or dual 4-ohm driver?

Wiring depends on the impedance version you order. A Dual 2-ohm IDQ10 V4 wired in parallel presents a 1-ohm load to your amplifier. A Dual 2-ohm wired in series presents 4 ohms. A Dual 4-ohm wired in parallel presents 2 ohms, and wired in series presents 8 ohms. Pick the impedance version based on what your amp is stable at. Most monoblock subwoofer amps are happiest at 1 or 2 ohms.

Should I order the box only or bundle the IDQ driver with my enclosure?

Bundle the driver if you don't already own one. You'll save the hassle of sourcing a Dual 2-ohm or Dual 4-ohm IDQ10 V4 separately, and we'll ship the complete loaded system ready to wire to your amp. Order box-only if you already own your IDQ or want to source the driver elsewhere. Either way, you get the same driver-specific enclosure built to the IDQ's parameters.
