This enclosure holds 1.00 cu ft net per chamber. Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 14.5 mm. Unfiltered that is 539 W, reached first at 44 Hz. It sits above the 500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 545 W before hitting the same 14.5 mm. That is 1 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

INSTALLER'S TAKE Trunk-load wedges are one of the oldest tricks in the SQ playbook, and they still work as well as they ever did. The idea is simple: mount the woofer on the vertical face that faces the trunk lid, angle the opposite face to match the lean of the rear seat back, and let the trunk cavity load the driver. Done right, you get smoother low-end integration into the cabin, a system that doesn't localize behind the listener, and a cabinet that tucks into the trunk shelf area without stealing usable cargo space. For the IDQ10 V4 specifically, this cabinet is a great fit. Image Dynamics publishes three sealed alignments: 0.60 Compact, 1.10 Universal, and 1.60 Audiophile. The 1.0 cubic foot volume in this wedge lands between Compact and Universal, dialed closer to Universal so you get most of the low-end reach that alignment delivers while keeping the tighter Qtc and slightly higher power handling that comes from a somewhat smaller cabinet. Approximately 350 watts maximum in this alignment. Not the deepest possible IDQ10 build, but the best balance of extension, control, and power handling for a single-driver system. The geometry is what makes this design work in real vehicles. The 8.4 inch top to 13.5 inch bottom depth difference on the seat-side face creates a 20 degree lean back from vertical, the same angle as most factory rear seat backrests within a couple degrees. When you push the wedge back against the rear seat, the angled seat-side face sits flush against the seat back, with no wasted gap eating trunk space. The vertical trunk-lid-side face is where the woofer mounts, firing rearward toward the trunk lid. Why fire the woofer rearward instead of into the cabin? Two reasons. First, it uses the trunk cavity as an acoustic loading chamber, the trunk itself becomes part of the low-frequency reproduction path. Bass energy transmits into the passenger cabin through the rear deck, seat back, and side boundaries rather than firing directly at the listener. The result is a smoother, less localized bass presentation. Second, it lets the wedge sit against the seat without any air path or firing obstruction on the front side of the box. If you tried to fire the woofer forward through the seat back, you'd need clearance in front of the driver, and the whole point of the wedge shape is that you don't have that clearance. The 20 x 14 footprint is the same as our rectangular PO 10-S IDQ box. Same trunk floor real estate, but the wedge shape effectively preserves more usable cargo space because the top portion of the wedge is hidden behind the rear seat. Wiring is standard IDQ10. Dual 2 ohm gets you 1 ohm parallel or 4 ohms series. Dual 4 ohm gets you 2 ohms parallel or 8 ohms series. 250 to 350 watts RMS at your chosen impedance is the target. Don't cheap out on the amp, the IDQ is a driver that rewards clean power. If you're building an SQ-oriented single 10 system in a trunk and you want the smoother acoustic loading that a trunk-fired wedge delivers, this is the answer. -Scott
