Installer's take
2.23 cubic feet net. That is the Butterworth volume for the DB-SA415 D2 coil, computed from Deaf Bonce's published Fs, Qts and Vas. Deaf Bonce publish no sealed recommendation for the DB-SA415 (their manual recommends a bass-reflex box), so this alignment is ours, chosen for damping and transient control rather than peak output. Half power lands at 53.0 Hz anechoic, before any cabin gain.
Two coil versions, one cabinet. In this box the DB-SA415 D2 lands at Qtc 0.707, maximally flat, the reference musical alignment, and the DB-SA415 D1 at Qtc 0.707. System resonance sits at 53.0 Hz.
The cosmetic recess is cut to the 15.81 in frame diameter read from the dimension drawing in Deaf Bonce's manual. Deaf Bonce do not publish driver displacement; the 0.12 cu ft carried here is an estimate for a 15 inch motor, and only the gross figure depends on it.
Measure the base depth. This cabinet is 19.56 inches deep at the trunk floor, 13.01 at the top, and 21.14 wide. It is deeper at the base than it is tall, because the DB-SA415 carries a 11.73 in motor and the cabinet has to clear it.
Questions
Will this enclosure fit both the DB-SA415 D1 and the DB-SA415 D2?
Yes. The coil versions share a frame, the same 13.94 in cutout and the same 11.73 in mounting depth, so the cabinet fits either. They differ electrically, and nothing about the enclosure changes.
Why 2.23 cubic feet net?
2.23 cubic feet net. That is the Butterworth volume for the DB-SA415 D2 coil, computed from Deaf Bonce's published Fs, Qts and Vas. Deaf Bonce publish no sealed recommendation for the DB-SA415 (their manual recommends a bass-reflex box), so this alignment is ours, chosen for damping and transient control rather than peak output. In this box the DB-SA415 D2 lands at Qtc 0.707, maximally flat, the reference musical alignment, and the DB-SA415 D1 at Qtc 0.707. System resonance sits at 53.0 Hz. The box is 2.36 cu ft gross before the driver's displacement. Deaf Bonce do not publish driver displacement; the 0.12 cu ft carried here is an estimate for a 15 inch motor, and only the gross figure depends on it.
What amplifier power should I run, and what impedance?
Deaf Bonce rate the DB-SA415 at 3500 watts RMS. The DB-SA415 D1 carries two 1 ohm coils: 2 ohms in series or 0.5 ohm in parallel. The DB-SA415 D2 carries two 2 ohm coils: 4 ohms in series or 1 ohm in parallel. Run the coils in series unless the amplifier is rated stable at the parallel load; 0.5 ohm is beyond most amplifiers. Aim for roughly 2450 to 3500 watts at the impedance you wire.
How does a wedge enclosure improve the sound in a trunk installation?
The angled seat-side face matches the roughly 20 degree lean of a factory rear seat, so the cabinet sits flat against it instead of leaving a wasted triangle. The vertical trunk-lid-side face carries the driver, firing rearward into the trunk cavity.
Why a rear-firing wedge instead of a plain box?
A rectangular box of this volume wastes the triangle of space a leaning rear seat creates, and firing into the trunk lid rather than at the seat back gives the cabin a smoother path to the passengers. The wedge takes the same air volume and puts it where the car actually has room.
What is the expected low-frequency extension?
Half power lands at 53.0 Hz anechoic, before any cabin gain. Qtc is 0.707. These figures exclude cabin gain, which in most vehicles adds real output below 40 Hz. Deaf Bonce publish the DB-SA415's free-air resonance at 30 Hz.
Do I need to add polyfill or damping?
No. Polyfill is already installed as a light wall lining and the quantity is chosen so it does not change the acoustic volume. Do not add more.
Is the driver included?
No. This is an enclosure only. You receive the cabinet finished in plush black carpet, with threaded inserts at the driver position, stainless machine screws, one side-mounted pre-wired terminal cup and the polyfill lining already installed.
