Installer's take
The P3D2-15 is Rockford's most musical 15" driver. Punch series is positioned below the T1 flagship series, but "positioned below" doesn't mean "worse": it means "different design target." The P3 uses an anodized aluminum cone (T1 uses Kevlar-reinforced paper), a hybrid stamp-cast basket (T1 uses full die-cast), a shallower 7.58" mount depth (T1 is 8.39"), and standard nickel-plated push terminals (T1 has SWIFT quick-reconfig terminals). Different tools for different jobs. The P3 is aimed at musical accuracy and versatility. The T1 is aimed at SPL output. Both are Klippel-verified, both use VAST surround, both use FlexFit baskets. RF didn't cheap out on the P3 platform. They just tuned it for a different priority.
Here's the design decision on this box that deserves an explanation. RF publishes 1.58 cu ft as the "optimum" sealed spec for the P3D2-15. That spec targets a system Qtc close to 1.0, which is RF's chosen compromise between peak output and cabinet size. It's a reasonable spec. It's just not the spec I'd pick for a driver that RF themselves market as musical and versatile.
I want the P3D2-15 tuned lower than Qtc 1.099. Around 0.85 is where this driver sings for daily-driver listening. Better transient recovery. Slightly deeper F3. Smoother rolloff. Less peak hump. Better integration with midbass when you're running a proper front stage.
To hit that lower Qtc, I need more airspace than RF's 1.58 spec. Doing the math: 2.0 cu ft gross minus the P3D2-15's 0.247 cu ft mounted displacement = 1.753 cu ft net. About 11% larger than RF's optimum, still well within RF's stated sealed range. Not enough to leave the driver's designed operating envelope. Just enough to shift the Q meaningfully into more musical territory.
This is the whole point of the Performance Optimized name. We take manufacturer specs seriously, but we're not blind to them either. When there's a design decision baked into the manufacturer's spec that doesn't match how the driver will actually be used (musical daily-driver operation, not SPL competition), we adjust. Transparently. With the math visible. Nothing hidden.
If you want the box tuned to RF's exact 1.58 spec for peak SPL output, we can build that too. Send us a note and we'll cut a version dialed to spec. But for the majority of P3D2-15 buyers who want the driver to sound its musical best, this box is the right call.
Wedge geometry is standard PO trunk-load, sized appropriately for a 15" driver with the P3's shallower mounting requirements. 26.25" wide, 18" tall, 8.6" deep at top, 15.2" deep at bottom. The 8.6" top face is notably shallower than the T1D215 wedge's 11.2" top face because the P3's 7.58" mount depth allows it. Smart cabinet design takes advantage of the driver's compact motor, the P3 wedge fits parcel-shelf-limited vehicles that the T1 wedge won't clear.
Loaded weight is much more manageable than the T1 15" build. The P3D2-15's aluminum cone and smaller motor put its shipping weight well below the T1D215's 53.75 lb. Loaded system probably lands around 70-80 lb total. Still a two-person install, but not the "call a friend and pray" territory of the T1 15". Standard parcel shipping usually works fine.
Amplifier pairing is straightforward. RF's own Punch P600X1 monoblock is the natural match, 600W at 1 ohm, class D, well-regulated, factory-matched to the P3 driver's power target. If you want more headroom, the Punch P1000X1bd delivers 1000W at 1 ohm and gives you room to breathe without pushing the driver to its thermal limit. Any modern high-quality class D monoblock stable at 1 ohm in the 400-700W range works. Set low-pass around 80-100 Hz. Subsonic around 25-30 Hz.
Wiring is more traditional than the T1 series. P3 uses standard push terminals instead of SWIFT quick-reconfig terminals. Wire it once and it stays where you put it. Parallel for 1 ohm (max output), series for 4 ohm (higher-impedance amps or dual-driver applications).
Sealed vs ported: RF supports both alignments for the P3D2-15 (1.58 sealed, 2.66 ported). Ported adds output efficiency in the peak-tuned range at the cost of transient accuracy and cabinet size. Sealed keeps the presentation tight and controlled. This is the sealed answer, tuned for musical accuracy. If you want ported, contact us. That's a separate build.
This is an enclosure-only listing. Bring your own P3D2-15 (or P3D4-15, the 4-ohm variant fits identically). Source from any authorized Rockford Fosgate dealer.
If you want Rockford's most musical 15" tuned for how music actually plays in a daily-driven car, in trunk-fit wedge form, this is the box.
Questions
Why is this enclosure larger than Rockford's optimum sealed spec for the P3D2-15?
Rockford Fosgate publishes 1.58 cubic feet as the optimum sealed volume for the P3D2-15, targeting a system Qtc of approximately 1.0 for peak output efficiency. This cabinet is deliberately tuned larger at 1.753 cubic feet net (2.0 cubic feet gross minus the P3D2-15's 0.247 cubic foot displacement) to deliver a lower system Qtc of approximately 0.85. Lower Qtc means better transient response, deeper F3, less peak hump, and a more musically accurate presentation. The 11 percent size increase is well within Rockford Fosgate's stated sealed enclosure range for the P3D2-15 and reflects a deliberate SQ-oriented tuning choice for daily-driver musical use. If you prefer RF's exact 1.58 spec for maximum SPL output, contact us for a build to that spec.
What size enclosure does the Rockford Fosgate P3D2-15 need?
Rockford Fosgate publishes 1.58 cubic feet as the optimum sealed volume for the P3D2-15 (and 2.66 cubic feet for a vented alignment). The recommended sealed range extends above and below the 1.58 optimum. This Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 15 for Rockford Fosgate P3 is tuned to 1.753 cubic feet net, which sits comfortably within RF's sealed range while delivering a lower system Q for improved musical accuracy versus RF's peak-output-oriented spec.
How does the P3D2-15 compare to the T1D215?
Different Rockford Fosgate design targets. The P3D2-15 is the flagship of the Punch series, positioned for musical accuracy and versatility, 600 watts RMS, anodized aluminum cone, hybrid stamp-cast basket, 7.58 inch mounting depth, standard push terminals. The T1D215 is the flagship of the Power T1 series, positioned for SPL output, 1000 watts RMS, Kevlar-reinforced paper cone, full die-cast basket, 8.39 inch mounting depth, SWIFT quick-reconfig terminals, 229 oz magnet (nearly 2x the P3's magnet). Both share VAST surround technology, FlexFit basket design, Klippel-verified motor characterization, and anodized aluminum voice coil formers. Choose the P3D2-15 for musical daily-driver use at a friendlier price point. Choose the T1D215 for maximum SPL output when the extra power handling and premium construction justify the substantially higher driver cost.
What are the dimensions of the Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 15 for the Rockford Fosgate P3?
The 15" cabinet measures 26.25" wide x 18" tall externally, with a wedge depth of 8.6" at the top and 15.2" at the bottom. The angled seat-side face sits approximately 20 degrees back from vertical, designed to match the lean of typical rear seat backrests. Notably more trunk-friendly than the T1D215 wedge (which is 28" wide, 11.2" deep at top) because the P3's shallower 7.58" mounting depth allows a lower-profile top face. Still a substantial cabinet requiring a full-size sedan trunk, wagon or SUV cargo area, or pickup extended-cab install with real behind-seat space.
What impedance options are available for the Rockford Fosgate P3 15"
Rockford Fosgate offers the P3 15" in two dual-voice-coil impedance configurations: P3D2-15 (Dual 2-ohm) and P3D4-15 (Dual 4-ohm). Both fit this cabinet identically since RF publishes the same sealed spec across both variants. The P3D2-15 (2-ohm) wires as 1-ohm parallel (maximum output) or 4-ohm series. The P3D4-15 (4-ohm) wires as 2-ohm parallel or 8-ohm series. Unlike the T1 series, the P3 uses standard 10-AWG nickel-plated push terminals rather than SWIFT quick-reconfig terminals. Wire it once and it stays where you put it.
What is the mounting depth of the Rockford Fosgate P3D2-15?
The Rockford Fosgate P3D2-15 has a mounting depth of 7.58 inches (192.5mm) with a cutout diameter of 13.94 inches (353mm). Notably shallower than the T1D215 (8.39 inch mounting depth), which is why the P3 wedge can use a lower-profile 8.6 inch top face vs the T1 wedge's 11.2 inch. The P3D2-15 uses Rockford's FlexFit basket, a slot-mounted frame pattern that allows fine-tuning of the driver's rotational mounting position. Internal cabinet clearance behind the driver: over 10.4 inches at the mounting center, 7.85 inches at the top baffle edge (both after 3/4" MDF panel thickness).
Should I use the P3D2-15 in a sealed or ported enclosure?
Rockford Fosgate supports both alignments for the P3D2-15. Sealed (1.58 cu ft optimum per RF, or the 1.75 cu ft musically-tuned target used in this cabinet) delivers tight, controlled bass with excellent transient response. Ideal for musical accuracy and sound quality installs. Ported (2.66 cu ft per RF spec) delivers additional output efficiency in the peak-tuned range and is preferred for maximum-SPL builds, but doubles cabinet volume and loses transient accuracy. This cabinet is engineered for the sealed alignment with a musical tuning bias. If you need a ported P3D2-15 build, contact us for options.
How much power can the Rockford Fosgate P3D2-15 handle?
The Rockford Fosgate P3D2-15 handles 600 watts RMS continuous (CEA-2031 compliant) with 1200 watts peak. For balanced output and long-term reliability in the Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 15 enclosure, pair the P3D2-15 with a well-regulated class D monoblock delivering 400-600 watts RMS at your chosen impedance. Rockford Fosgate's own Punch P600X1 monoblock is a natural match, 600W at 1 ohm, factory-tuned to the P3 driver's power target. For more headroom, RF's Punch P1000X1bd delivers 1000W at 1 ohm without pushing the driver to its thermal limit.
