This enclosure holds 1.35 cu ft net per chamber. In it the ResoNix GUS-15 runs a system Qtc of 0.69–0.70 with half power at 32.2–35.6 Hz, and the cone reaches its 25.0 mm travel limit at 1590 W, above the driver’s 1500 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 3025 W — +1435 W, or 90 percent more power for the same 25.0 mm of travel.

The GUS-15 straddles the boundary at 44.1–50.3 depending on coil — part sealed-band, part transition. Either way it takes a sealed load happily; the coil you run shifts the alignment more than it shifts this verdict.

The box lifts resonance from 17.1 Hz free-air to 32–35 Hz and half power lands at 32.2–35.6 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 25.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 25.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 1590 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits above the 1500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 3025 W before hitting the same 25.0 mm. That is 90 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

The GUS-15 is the logical conclusion of what the GUS series was built to do. Maximum output, minimum distortion, in the smallest sealed enclosure the driver can operate correctly in. At 1,500 watts RMS with Klippel-verified 25.89mm one-way Xmax across 804.25 cm² of cone area, the output potential of this driver in the correct enclosure exceeds every other build in the Micro Series lineup, including the GUS-12, by a substantial margin.

The volume math is the same methodology as the GUS-12. ResoNix's 0.707 Qtc target for the GUS-15 is 1.35 cubic feet net. Driver displacement is 0.072 cubic feet. Gross build volume is 1.35 + 0.072 = 1.422 cubic feet, so the driver sees exactly 1.35 cubic feet of net acoustic airspace after installation. The 1.42 figure on the listing is net acoustic volume. Most enclosure manufacturers quote gross volume. The difference here is 0.072 cubic feet, about 5% of the total volume, which at this Qts shifts the actual system Qtc by a measurable amount. Building this correctly matters.

Qts of 0.34 and Fs of 17.11 Hz put the GUS-15 in the same SQ-oriented category as the GUS-12. At 1.35 cubic feet sealed, the system Qtc targets 0.707: flat anechoic response extending well below 20 Hz. In a vehicle cabin, boundary gain below 80 Hz reinforces the driver's deep extension in the listening position, producing a full-bandwidth low-frequency response that is not achievable from any other shallow 15" at this depth. The cone area and Xmax are what make the GUS-15 a different proposition than the GUS-12: more displacement means more output at every frequency, particularly below 30 Hz where the 15" advantage over a 12" becomes most audible.

The enclosure is the most structurally demanding single-driver build in the series. The double-layer 1.5-inch baffle, dado joinery, and dowel reinforcement throughout are all warranted at 1,500 watts RMS across a 15-inch driver in a sealed box. The 8.25-inch total enclosure depth means panel walls have more geometric rigidity than the shallow Wavtech builds, but the sheer power level and cone size make the construction standard non-negotiable. Langboard Elite at 200 psi internal bond and 410,000 psi MOE is the correct spec for this application.

The 5.93-inch mounting depth is the deepest driver in this series. At 8.25 inches total enclosure depth, you have approximately 2.3 inches of clearance behind the motor, adequate, but not generous. Confirm your install location provides 8.25 inches of total depth before ordering. The minimum 33mm front clearance requirement from ResoNix also applies. Confirm this against seat, grille, or cargo cover clearance in your vehicle.

For impedance selection: D4 T/S data is published and is the basis for this enclosure's volume calculation. D2 parameters are not yet finalized by ResoNix. For the D4 wired parallel at 2 ohms, target a monoblock delivering 1,000–1,500 watts RMS at 2 ohms stable. For the D2 wired parallel at 1 ohm, you need an amplifier explicitly rated for sustained 1-ohm operation at this power level. This narrows the field considerably. Plan your amplifier selection before choosing the voice coil configuration.

Questions

Does this enclosure include the ResoNix GUS-15 subwoofer?

No. This is an enclosure-only product built exclusively for the ResoNix GUS-15. The driver must be purchased separately from ResoNix Sound Solutions. The enclosure ships pre-wired with the Proline X terminal cup, 8/32 threaded inserts, stainless machine screws, pre-installed polyfill, and rubber feet for downfiring installation. No other driver shares the GUS-15's cutout diameter or is served by the 1.42 cubic foot volume target.

Why does this enclosure list 1.42 cubic feet when ResoNix recommends 1.35?

ResoNix recommends 1.35 cubic feet of net acoustic airspace for the GUS-15 to achieve 0.707 Qtc. The GUS-15 has a published driver displacement of 0.072 cubic feet. Building to a gross volume of 1.35 cubic feet would leave only 1.278 cubic feet net after the driver is installed. Below the recommendation. The correct gross build volume is 1.35 + 0.072 = 1.422 cubic feet. This enclosure is built to deliver 1.42 cubic feet net acoustic airspace after the driver is installed, accurately matching ResoNix's target. The 1.42 figure is the net acoustic volume, not the gross box volume.

What makes the GUS-15 different from the GUS-12 in terms of output?

Both drivers share the same GUS series engineering philosophy, Klippel-verified motor linearity, copper shorting rings, titanium voice coil former, and Nomex/carbon fiber cone. The GUS-15 differs in scale: it has a larger effective cone area (804.25 cm² vs 490.87 cm²), higher Xmax (25.89mm vs 20.69mm), and a higher power rating (1,500W vs 800W RMS). Output capability at any given frequency is a function of cone displacement. Cone area times linear excursion. The GUS-15's combination produces substantially more displacement than the GUS-12, particularly in the sub-30 Hz range where the 15-inch advantage over a 12-inch driver becomes most audible in a well-tuned system.

How does the GUS-15 sound in a vehicle cabin at 1.35 cu ft?

The GUS-15 at 0.707 Qtc produces a flat anechoic response with the deepest low-frequency reach available from any shallow 15" driver. In a real vehicle cabin, bass frequencies below 80 Hz receive significant gain from acoustic boundaries, which reinforces the driver's deep extension in the listening position. The 15" cone area combined with 25.89mm of Klippel-verified one-way Xmax produces output at 20 Hz that no shallow 12" can match. With correct amplification and crossover configuration, this combination delivers reference-grade low-frequency performance in a footprint that fits behind seats and in cargo areas where a standard-depth 15" cannot go.

What amplifier does the GUS-15 require?

The GUS-15 is rated at 1,500 watts RMS. For the D4 wired parallel at 2 ohms, target a monoblock stable at 2 ohms delivering 1,000–1,500 watts RMS. For the D2 wired parallel at 1 ohm, an amplifier explicitly rated for sustained 1-ohm operation at this power level is required. This is a demanding load that not all 1-ohm-rated amplifiers handle reliably under continuous use. Do not exceed 1,500 watts RMS at the rated impedance. ResoNix is explicit that overpower damage is not covered under warranty, and the GUS-15's thermal limits are not inflated the way most competitors' ratings are.

Why does this enclosure use dowel reinforcement?

The GUS-15 at 1,500 watts RMS generates the highest sustained internal pressure of any single driver in the Micro Series lineup. Stack-fab construction layers and bonds CNC-cut MDF panels to increase panel mass and eliminate single-layer glue joints. Dowels add a third mechanical element, a pinned connection that resists lateral shear forces at panel joints independent of adhesive condition. At this power level, the combination of stack-fab layering, interlocking dado joints, adhesive, and dowel reinforcement is the correct structural standard for an enclosure designed to hold its geometry and acoustic seal over years of 1,500-watt operation.

Can I run this downfiring?

Yes. Rubber feet are included for downfiring. The GUS-15 features a vented rear cone assembly that allows the pole vent to be fully obstructed without acoustic penalty. Downfire in a tight install is viable. ResoNix notes that real-world difference between upfire and downfire orientations is minimal for the GUS series; choose based on install practicality and what produces the best vehicle floor coupling in your application. The minimum front clearance requirement of 33mm applies regardless of orientation. Confirm against whatever is in front of the driver in your install.
