This enclosure holds 0.72 cu ft net per chamber. In it the Kicker Solo-Baric L7R 10 (45L7R102) runs a system Qtc of 0.71 with half power at 51.2–53.6 Hz, and the cone reaches its 16.75 mm travel limit at 719 W, above the driver’s 500 W thermal rating, so heat stops you before travel does. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 911 W — +192 W, or 27 percent more power for the same 16.75 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

At 68.4–71.2 the Solo-Baric L7R 10 (45L7R102) sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

The box lifts resonance from 31.1–32.0 Hz free-air to 51–54 Hz and half power lands at 51.2–53.6 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 16.75 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 16.75 mm. Unfiltered that is 719 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits above the 500 W the driver can take thermally, so the voice coil gives up before the suspension does. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 911 W before hitting the same 16.75 mm. That is 27 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

A pair of L7R 10s in isolated chambers is my favorite way to do bass in a crew cab, and it beats going up in driver size for the same reason it always does. Two 10s give you about 6 dB over one, each cone works less hard for a given output, and you keep the shallow 6-1/8 inch mounting depth that makes the L7R so easy to place. A single 12 in the same footprint would move less air and need more depth.

Both coil versions landing on Butterworth is the part that makes this easy to sell and easy to live with. Qtc 0.705 and 0.710 in the same cabinet is not a difference you or anyone else can hear, so pick the pair that lands your amplifier on a load it likes. A pair of dual 2-ohm drivers is usually the easier answer for a modern class D monoblock that wants to see 1 ohm.

The divider is not just a partition. It is dado-locked into four panels and it is the reason a 29.75 inch wide cabinet does not need a separate brace across the span. Every dual chamber box should be built this way and plenty are not.

Check the 29.75 inch width before anything else. Depth came down to 14.35 at the floor because this driver only needs 6-1/8 inches and I put some of the airspace into width instead, which is the right trade in a truck where the back wall has room and the seat track does not. But it does mean width is the number that rules this in or out. Measure the back wall from trim panel to trim panel, not the seat.

Questions

Will my Kicker Solo-Baric L7R 10s fit this enclosure?

Yes. Both baffle openings are CNC-cut to Kicker's published 9-5/16 inch square cutout for the Solo-Baric L7R 10, and each chamber clears the required 6-1/8 inch mounting depth with generous margin. Both the dual 2-ohm 45L7R102 and the dual 4-ohm 45L7R104 share the same frame and drop in identically.

Why two separate chambers instead of one shared volume?

In a shared volume each cone's back pressure acts on the other one, so the two drivers are mechanically coupled through the air. Any mismatch between them, whether from manufacturing tolerance, uneven break-in, or one driver starting to fail, gets shared across the pair instead of staying put. You also lose the ability to run either driver alone without the alignment changing.

Isolated chambers mean each L7R sees exactly the 0.82 cubic feet of gross airspace it was solved for, independent of what the other one is doing. The full-height divider that makes this possible is dado-locked into the top, bottom, front and back panels, so it also serves as the primary brace across the 29.75 inch span. You get better mechanical behavior and a stiffer cabinet from the same piece of MDF.

Do both subwoofers need to be the same coil version?

Yes, run matching coil versions in both chambers. Mixing a dual 2-ohm with a dual 4-ohm creates an impedance imbalance that sends unequal power to the two drivers, and the pair will no longer play at matched levels no matter how the wiring is arranged.

Which matched pair you pick is genuinely free choice. Both coil versions land on Butterworth in this airspace, Qtc 0.705 and 0.710, so the acoustic result is the same either way. A pair of dual 2-ohm drivers gives you 0.5, 2, or 8 ohm system options; a pair of dual 4-ohm gives 1, 4, or 16. Buy whichever pair lets your amplifier make clean rated power.

How much power should I run to a pair of L7R 10s?

Kicker rates each L7R 10 at 500 watts RMS, so a matched pair wants about 1000 watts RMS total, split evenly. As with the single, you have excursion headroom you cannot exhaust: it takes roughly 1394 watts per driver to reach the 16.75 mm linear limit in this airspace, and about 1814 watts behind a 25 Hz subsonic filter. Thermal limits arrive at well under half that, which means a clean 1000 watt system with properly set gains is comfortably matched rather than marginal.

How does the dual 10 compare to a single 12 or a ported build?

Two 10s give you roughly 6 dB more output than one for the same alignment and the same character, which is a much larger jump than moving from a 10 to a 12. The pair also splits the work, so each driver runs at lower excursion for a given output level and stays further inside its linear range.

Against a ported build, the trade is the usual one. Ported would give more output in a narrow band near tuning but needs roughly double the airspace per driver, which defeats the purpose of a behind-seat wedge. The L7R's efficiency bandwidth product of 68.4 to 71.2 puts it in the transition band, meaning it works honestly in either alignment, so this is a real choice rather than a compromise. For a truck cab where depth is the binding constraint, sealed wins, and this cabinet is only 14.35 inches deep at the floor.

Will this wedge fit behind the seat of my truck?

You need 29.75 inches of width, 13.5 inches of height, and 14.35 inches of depth at the floor; the top of the box needs only 9.47 inches because the baffle rakes back 20 degrees to follow the seat lean. The rear panel is fully vertical and sits flat against the cab wall. The width is the number to check first, since a dual 10 wedge needs a full-width crew cab or extended cab bench to sit behind. Measure the back wall of the cab from trim panel to trim panel, not the seat.

No, this listing is the enclosure only.
