Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.
02What the box does to it
0.80 cu ft against a 48.7 L Vas.
03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)
Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 15.2 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

| Vas | 48.73 | L | equivalent compliance |
| Sd | 539.0 | cm² | effective piston area |

Installer's take
This is the deepest-reaching build in the Down Fire program. 32.6 Hz F3 per driver, twice over, from a pair of drivers that each mount in three and a half inches.
The 12TW3 gets there through three parameters most shallows only manage one of: a 26.46 Hz free-air resonance, 48.73 liters of Vas, and a Qts of 0.531 low enough that a properly damped alignment is reachable. At JL's own 0.80 net per chamber the result is Qtc 0.943, above the maximally flat reference.
Separate chambers as always. Two drivers in one shared volume interact acoustically, each one's compression stroke becoming the pressure environment the other works against, which smears transients. A full-height bonded divider stops it. Each driver sees its own 0.80 net and its own polyfill.
Across the pair that is 1078 square centimeters of cone with 15.2mm of one-way excursion each, and 800 watts RMS combined. The Concentric Tube Suspension is what keeps those cones traveling straight through that much excursion in frames this short.
Be realistic about size. At 10.75 inches this is among the tallest cabinets we build. Cargo floor, rear wall, or behind a bench. The 30 by 15 footprint is unchanged so it takes no more floor area than any other Down Fire cabinet, it just stands taller.
82 dB sensitivity means these want the full 400 watts each rather than half. One side-mounted cup feeds both positions in parallel, dual 4 ohm coils per driver, wire both identically.
Questions
How tall is this cabinet and where does it fit?
10.75 inches, which is among the tallest in the Proline X Down Fire line. This is not an under-seat build. It suits a cargo floor, a rear wall, or the space behind a bench seat. The footprint is the standard 30 by 15 inches, so it occupies no more floor area than any other Down Fire cabinet, it simply stands taller to give each of the two 12TW3-D4 drivers its full 0.80 cubic feet.
If vertical clearance is your constraint, the single 12 inch TW3 enclosure at 6.4375 inches or the dual 10 inch at 7.6875 inches are the alternatives.
How does a shallow driver reach 32.6 Hz?
Three parameters working together. The 12TW3-D4 has a free-air resonance of 26.46 Hz, which is conventional-driver territory rather than shallow-driver territory. It has 48.73 liters of Vas, meaning genuine suspension compliance. And it has a Qts of 0.531, low enough that a properly damped sealed alignment is achievable.
Most shallow subwoofers deliver one of those three and compromise on the others. Getting all three in a 3.50 inch mounting depth is what JL's patented Thin-Line architecture and Concentric Tube Suspension were developed to do. Across a pair, this is the deepest-reaching build in the Proline X Down Fire line.
Why two separate chambers instead of one shared volume?
Because two drivers in a shared sealed volume interact acoustically. Each driver's compression phase becomes the pressure environment the other driver is working against, which smears transient response and blurs the alignment each would have on its own. A full-height bonded 3/4 inch MDF divider eliminates that completely. Each 12TW3-D4 gets its own 0.80 cubic feet net, matching JL Audio's own sealed optimum, plus its own polyfill. Separate chambers are the standing design rule on every Proline X dual sealed enclosure.
How is this enclosure wired, and how do I set my final impedance?
The enclosure uses one side-mounted Proline X terminal cup with a single pair of posts, pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC to both driver positions in parallel. You do not wire the two chambers separately at the amplifier.
Final impedance is set at the drivers. Each 12TW3-D4 has dual 4-ohm voice coils, so you choose how to wire the two coils on each driver and that determines the load the amplifier sees through the cup. Wire both drivers identically, since mismatched wiring between chambers will split power unevenly. Confirm the resulting load against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before powering the system.
How much power should I run to these subwoofers?
JL Audio rates each 12TW3-D4 at 400 watts RMS and recommends 200 to 400 watts per driver, so 800 watts RMS total across the pair. Aim for the upper end of that range.
Sensitivity is 82 dB at 1 watt, which is low. That is the tradeoff for getting 15.2mm of excursion and a 26.46 Hz resonance into a 3.50 inch frame: these motors prioritize control and travel over efficiency. Underpowering leaves significant output unused.
Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?
Side mounted, and there is one cup serving both chambers rather than one per chamber. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since both baffles face the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.
How is this enclosure built?
V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which keeps both chambers airtight under sustained pressure cycling. The chamber divider is a full-height bonded 3/4 inch panel.
Front baffles are double-layer at 1.5 inches at both driver positions, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so each driver bolts to the inner layer. That matters with two 11.625 inch cutouts in the same cabinet. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill in each chamber complete the build. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Are the JL Audio 12TW3-D4 subwoofers included with this enclosure?
No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own pair of JL Audio 12TW3-D4 subwoofers. The cutouts and mounting depth are direct fit at both driver positions.
