Installer's take
This is the deepest-reaching cabinet in the entire Down Fire program. 36.7 Hz per driver, twice over, from a pair of 12s that each mount in four and a half inches.
The number that gets you there is the GUS-12's 14.5 Hz free-air resonance. Across sixteen driver families in this program nothing else is close. Most shallow 12s sit in the high 20s or low 30s. Conventional 12s with twice the mounting depth rarely get below 25. Pair it with a Qts of 0.28 and you can properly damp this driver in three quarters of a cubic foot.
Each chamber is exactly 0.75 net, which is ResoNix's own published figure for 0.707 Qtc. Both coil options land within a tenth of a hertz of each other, so pick whichever suits your amplifier.
Separate chambers as always. Two drivers sharing one volume interact acoustically, each one's compression stroke becoming the pressure environment the other works against. A full-height bonded divider stops it. Each driver gets its own 0.75 and its own polyfill.
Be honest about size on this one. 9.875 inches tall before you add the required standoffs, which puts the installed height over 11 inches. This is a cargo floor or rear-wall build and nothing else. If you want GUS-12 performance in a shorter package, the single is 6 inches and gives up nothing acoustically per driver.
1600 watts RMS combined. ResoNix states they do not underrate their drivers and that overpower damage is not warranty work. They also warn these stay composed until they suddenly do not, so respect the number and make sure your electrical system can actually deliver it cleanly.
Questions
How does a 4.5 inch deep driver reach 36.7 Hz?
The free-air resonance. The GUS-12 measures 14.5 Hz, which is exceptionally low for any 12 inch subwoofer and remarkable for one with a 4.539 inch mounting depth. Most shallow 12s sit in the high 20s or low 30s. A sealed enclosure always raises the system corner above the driver's Fs, so a low starting point is what makes deep extension possible in a small box.
Combined with a Qts of 0.28, the driver has both the low resonance and the motor control to reach a well damped alignment in three quarters of a cubic foot per chamber. Across a pair, this is the deepest-reaching build in the Proline X Down Fire line.
How tall is this cabinet once the standoffs are installed?
The cabinet itself is 9.875 inches. ResoNix requires 60mm of clearance from the baffle surface to whatever sits in front of the cone, which on a down fire enclosure is the floor, so the included standoffs add roughly two and a half inches. Plan on an installed height above 11 inches.
This is a cargo floor or rear-wall build rather than an under-seat one. The 30 by 15 inch footprint is unchanged, so it takes no more floor area than any other Down Fire cabinet. If vertical clearance is the constraint, the single 12 inch GUS enclosure is 6 inches tall and delivers the identical alignment per driver.
Why two separate chambers instead of one shared volume?
Because two drivers in a shared sealed volume interact acoustically. Each driver's compression phase becomes the pressure environment the other driver is working against, which smears transient response and blurs the alignment each would have on its own. A full-height bonded 3/4 inch MDF divider eliminates that completely.
Each GUS-12 gets exactly 0.75 cubic feet net, which is ResoNix's own published volume for a 0.707 Qtc alignment, plus its own polyfill. Separate chambers are the standing design rule on every Proline X dual sealed enclosure.
How is this enclosure wired, and how do I set my final impedance?
The enclosure uses one side-mounted Proline X terminal cup with a single pair of posts, pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC to both driver positions in parallel. You do not wire the two chambers separately at the amplifier.
Final impedance is set at the drivers. Each GUS-12 is dual voice coil: the D2 gives 1 ohm in parallel or 4 in series, the D4 gives 2 ohms parallel or 8 series. Two drivers in parallel through the cup halves that again, so a pair of D4 drivers wired parallel presents a 1 ohm load. Use two of the same coil configuration, wire them identically, and confirm the resulting load against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before powering the system.
Why does this enclosure come with standoffs?
Because ResoNix specifies a minimum clearance in front of the cone, and on a down fire enclosure the thing in front of the cone is the floor. Their requirement for the GUS-12 is 28mm between the surround and the obstruction, or 60mm measured from the baffle surface.
This cabinet ships with custom-fit standoffs machined to hold that clearance at both driver positions. Setting a down fire GUS enclosure flat on the floor would restrict both drivers and compromise output and mechanical safety. The standoffs are a required part of the design, not an accessory.
How much power should I run to these subwoofers?
800 watts RMS per driver, 1600 watts combined, and not more. ResoNix is unusually direct about this: they state that the GUS series is not deliberately underrated the way many manufacturers rate their drivers, and that burnt voice coils or damage from bottoming out are not covered under warranty.
At 1600 watts the electrical system matters as much as the amplifier. Plan on adequate alternator output, battery capacity, and correctly sized power and ground cable. ResoNix also notes these drivers stay linear and composed right up to their limits, so it will not always be obvious when you are pushing too hard.
How is this enclosure built?
V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which keeps both chambers airtight under sustained pressure cycling. The chamber divider is a full-height bonded 3/4 inch panel.
Front baffles are double-layer at 1.5 inches at both driver positions, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so each driver bolts to the inner layer. That matters with two 11.164 inch cutouts and 1600 watts in the same cabinet. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill in each chamber complete the build, and custom-fit standoffs are included. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
