Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.
02What the box does to it
0.60 cu ft against a 42.0 L Vas.
03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)
Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 20.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.
| Param | Value | Unit | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fs | 26.00 | Hz | free-air resonance |
| Qts | 0.460 | 4 | |
| Vas | 42.00 | L | equivalent compliance |
| Sd | 510.7 | cm² | effective piston area |
| Xmax | 20 | mm | one-way linear travel |
| Pe | 750 | W | continuous RMS |
| SPL | 83.5 | dB | 1 W / 1 m, derived from T/S |

Installer's take
Two thinPRO12s, each at Wavtech's own 0.6 net preferred volume, in a cabinet 8.4375 inches tall. 1500 watts RMS combined, 1021 square centimeters of cone, 20mm of one-way excursion per driver.
The 25 Hz free-air resonance on the -2 variant is what makes this build reach. That is genuinely low for any 12, and remarkable for one that mounts in 3.0 inches. Paired with 42 liters of Vas it puts each chamber at F3 38.3 Hz.
Separate chambers as always. Two drivers sharing one volume interact acoustically, each one's compression stroke becoming the pressure environment the other works against, which smears transients. A full-height bonded divider stops it. Each driver sees its own 0.60 net and its own polyfill.
Wavtech's published data is the most accurate in this program and worth calling out again. They list Qtc 0.91 with F3 39 Hz for the -2 and 0.86 with 42 Hz for the -4 at 0.6 net. Independently computed from their own T/S: 0.912 at 38.3 and 0.856 at 41.4. Within a hertz on both. That is why we build their preferred volume exactly rather than adjusting it.
The driver engineering is worth understanding. 5 inch four-layer coil on a vented polyimide former, dual internal mirrored NBR spiders with a reinforced axial force transfer assembly holding the cone on axis through full travel, FEA-optimized dual-gap motor with double-stacked strontium magnets, honeycomb Nomex and glass fiber cone, vented cast aluminum frame.
Both variants are single voice coil, so no coil configuration at the driver. A pair of -2 drivers presents 1 ohm through the shared cup, a pair of -4 presents 2 ohms. Use two of the same model. 83 to 84 dB sensitivity, so give them the power.
Questions
Does this cabinet match Wavtech's recommended volume?
Exactly. Each chamber provides 0.60 cubic feet net, which is Wāvtech's own preferred sealed volume for the thinPRO12.
Their published alignment at that volume is Qtc 0.86 with F3 at 41.4 Hz for the -2 and Qtc 0.86 with F3 at 42 Hz for the -4. Running their own Qts and Vas through standard sealed box math independently produces 0.912 at 38.3 Hz and 0.856 at 41.4 Hz. Within a hertz on both variants, which is the closest agreement between our figures and a manufacturer's anywhere in this program.
Why two separate chambers instead of one shared volume?
Because two drivers in a shared sealed volume interact acoustically. Each driver's compression phase becomes the pressure environment the other driver is working against, which smears transient response and blurs the alignment each would have on its own. A full-height bonded 3/4 inch MDF divider eliminates that completely. Each thinPRO12 gets its own 0.60 cubic feet net, Wāvtech's own preferred volume, plus its own polyfill. Separate chambers are the standing design rule on every Proline X dual sealed enclosure.
How does this compare to the single 12 inch thinPRO enclosure?
Acoustically identical per driver, roughly 6 dB more maximum output. Both give each thinPRO12 exactly 0.60 cubic feet net and land at Qtc 0.857 on the -2 or 0.856 on the -4, with the same F3 figures. The difference is physical: both share the 30 by 15 inch footprint, but the single stands 5.25 inches tall and the dual stands 8.4375.
Combined power handling doubles to 1500 watts RMS and cone area doubles to 1021.4 square centimeters. The single is still shallow enough for many under-seat applications; the dual is a cargo floor or rear-wall build.
How is this enclosure wired, and what impedance will my amplifier see?
Simpler than most duals in this line. Both thinPRO12 variants are single voice coil, so there is no coil configuration decision at the driver. The enclosure uses one side-mounted Proline X terminal cup with a single pair of posts, pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC to both driver positions in parallel.
Your final load depends on which model you install: a pair of thinPRO12-2 drivers presents 1 ohm at the cup, a pair of thinPRO12-4 presents 2 ohms. Use two of the same model and confirm the resulting load against your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before powering the system.
How much power should I run to these subwoofers?
Wāvtech rates each thinPRO12 at 750 watts RMS with 2250 watts peak and recommends 250 to 750 watts per driver, so up to 1500 watts RMS total across the pair. Aim for the upper half of that range.
Sensitivity is 83 dB on the -2 and 84 dB on the -4, which is on the low side and reflects the tradeoff for 20mm of excursion in a 3.0 inch frame. At 1500 watts combined this build wants a solid electrical foundation behind it.
Where is the terminal cup located on a down fire enclosure?
Side mounted, and there is one cup serving both chambers rather than one per chamber. Every Proline X Performance Optimized enclosure uses a side mounted terminal cup regardless of alignment, whether standard, wedge, or down fire. On this cabinet that keeps the connection fully accessible with the enclosure in its installed position, since both baffles face the floor. The cup is our Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite unit, recessed, with stainless hardware, copper ring terminals, and pre-wired 12 gauge OFC.
How is this enclosure built?
V-groove and dado joinery, CNC-cut on ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite MDF. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks the panels before adhesive is applied, which keeps both chambers airtight under sustained pressure cycling. The chamber divider is a full-height bonded 3/4 inch panel.
Front baffles are double-layer at 1.5 inches at both driver positions, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so each driver bolts to the inner layer. That matters with two 11.125 inch cutouts and two 750 watt drivers in the same cabinet. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill in each chamber complete the build. Assembled and inspected in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Are the Wavtech thinPRO12 subwoofers included with this enclosure?
No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own pair of Wāvtech thinPRO12-2 or thinPRO12-4 subwoofers. The cutouts and mounting depth are direct fit at both driver positions. Use two of the same model.
