Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 14.5 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Installer's take
The IDQ12 V4 has been on my short list of SQ twelves for years, and a pair of them in the right sealed box is one of my favorite bass stages, period. The operative phrase is "the right box." The IDQ rewards correct airspace more than almost any driver I work with, which is exactly why we cut this enclosure around its published parameters instead of selling you a generic dual 12. The 2.8 cubic foot common chamber puts each driver in roughly 1.4 cubic feet, the extended end of the IDQ12's sealed window. Compared to the tighter 1.0 alignment, you give up a hair of punch and gain real extension, and with two 12s sharing the work, excursion per driver stays low and the bass stays effortless. With an EBP of 40, this driver was never going in a ported box anyway; sealed is its home and this is the airspace. Build details matter at this level. The threaded inserts match the IDQ's bolt pattern, so the drivers torque down properly and come back out cleanly when you want to show off that field-replaceable cone system. The terminal cup is pre-wired in 12-gauge OFC to both positions, so your only job is landing the amp leads and deciding on final impedance: a pair of Dual 2-ohm drivers lands at 2 ohms, a pair of Dual 4-ohm drivers gives you 1 ohm or 4. Power-wise, this stage wants 1000 clean watts. A Wavtech link1000.1mini on a 2-ohm pair is a tidy match, and the link1500.1plus covers a 1-ohm Dual 4 configuration with headroom. Feed it clean power, keep the gains honest, and a dual IDQ12 sealed stage will blend into a front stage like it is not even back there. That is the whole point. -Scott
Questions
What subwoofers is the Performance Optimized Dual Sealed 12 enclosure designed for?
The Performance Optimized Dual Sealed 12 (PO ID 12D-S IDQ) is engineered specifically for two Image Dynamics IDQ12 V4 subwoofers, in either Dual 2-ohm or Dual 4-ohm voice coil configurations. The internal volume, 10.87 inch baffle cutouts, and 8/32 threaded insert mounting pattern are all matched to the IDQ12 V4's published specifications rather than averaged across a class of 12-inch drivers.
How much airspace does each IDQ12 V4 get in this enclosure?
The enclosure provides approximately 2.8 cubic feet of net internal volume in a shared common chamber, which works out to approximately 1.4 cubic feet per driver after subwoofer displacement. That places each IDQ12 V4 in the extended portion of Image Dynamics' recommended sealed range, favoring deeper bass extension while preserving the transient accuracy the IDQ Series is known for. Polyfill comes pre-installed.
Why is this a common chamber instead of two separate chambers?
The Performance Optimized dual enclosures use a single shared chamber because two identical drivers fed the same signal in matched airspace behave as one acoustic system, and the common chamber maximizes usable net volume from the cabinet's footprint. The IDQ12 V4's consistent manufacturing tolerances make it well suited to shared-chamber operation.
Will the Image Dynamics IDQ12 V4 bolt directly into this enclosure?
Yes. The baffle carries 8/32 threaded inserts matched to the IDQ12 V4's published mounting hole pattern, and stainless steel machine screws are included. The 10.87 inch cutouts match the IDQ12 V4's specified cutout diameter, and the enclosure's 15 inch depth clears the driver's 5.91 inch mounting depth with room to spare.
How do I wire two IDQ12 V4 subwoofers and what final impedance will I get?
It depends on the voice coil version. A pair of IDQ12 V4 Dual 2-ohm subwoofers wires to a 2-ohm final load. A pair of IDQ12 V4 Dual 4-ohm subwoofers wires to either 1 ohm (all coils in parallel) or 4 ohms (series-parallel). The enclosure's Proline X terminal cup is pre-wired with 12-gauge OFC to both driver positions, so you only connect the amplifier leads and set the coil wiring at the drivers.
What amplifier should I use with two IDQ12 V4 subwoofers?
The pair handles 1000 watts RMS combined (500 watts each), so target a clean amplifier in the 700 to 1000 watt range at your final impedance. A Wavtech link1000.1mini delivers 1000 watts at 2 ohms for a Dual 2-ohm pair, and a Wavtech link1500.1plus covers a 1-ohm Dual 4-ohm configuration with its dual rail power supply. Clean, well-regulated power matters more to the IDQ12 than big peak numbers.
What are the carpet and acrylic insert options?
The acrylic insert is cosmetic and does not affect acoustic performance.
Can I buy this enclosure loaded with the subwoofers?
Yes. The Performance Optimized Dual Sealed 12 is available as the box only, or bundled with a matched pair of Image Dynamics IDQ12 V4 subwoofers in your choice of Dual 2-ohm or Dual 4-ohm. Bundled orders ship together from our facility in Tullahoma, Tennessee, and the enclosure carries a 1-year limited warranty.
