Performance in this enclosure
01Is it a sealed driver?
Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.
02What the box does to it
1.37 cu ft against a 25.7 L Vas.
03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)
Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 23.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Installer's take
The CompQ 12 is Kicker's best round 12-inch driver, period. It shares the motor architecture and cone technology of the Solo-Baric L7 but in a round basket, and when you give it a musical sealed box it plays with the same articulation and tonal accuracy as the top SQ competition drivers in this class, with more headroom than most.
I built this one to 1.37 cubic feet net, which puts the CompQ 12 at a Qtc of 0.79 based on bench-measured T/S parameters. That's punchier than pure Butterworth, sitting just above the musical sweet spot with a touch of extra midbass emphasis. On this driver, in a wedge that loads the trunk this cleanly, 0.79 is the alignment that hits kick drums with authority and stays composed on complex low-end passages.
The CompQ 12's bench Qts of 0.6115 sets a hard floor on how loose the alignment can go. Even an infinite box won't drop Qtc below that number. This driver is fundamentally a punchy-musical driver, not a Bessel-alignment SQ driver, and this cabinet respects that character while giving it enough air to breathe.
The double-baffle 1.5" front is not optional on this driver. The CompQ 12 has a heavy motor structure and puts real mechanical load into the mounting flange at high output. A single 3/4" baffle will telegraph flex back into the cone. Two bonded 3/4" layers with the CNC-precision cutout stops that entirely and gives the driver the rigid mounting platform it deserves.
If you're bringing your own amp, target 700-900 watts RMS at the woofer's impedance for a clean, headroom-rich musical system. The CompQ 12 is rated to 1000 watts RMS continuous and will handle it all day, but it doesn't need the full spec to sound its best.
Questions
Will this enclosure fit both the 51CWQ122 and 51CWQ124?
Yes. The cutout, mounting depth, and terminal cup wiring are direct-fit for either impedance option. Choose based on your amplifier's ideal load.
Why did you pick 1.37 cubic feet instead of Kicker's 0.88 to 2.0 cubic foot range?
1.37 cubic feet net puts the Kicker CompQ 12 at a Qtc of 0.79 based on bench-measured T/S parameters, a punchy-musical alignment with excellent transient control. Using the same bench data, Kicker's 0.88 cubic foot minimum produces a punchier Qtc around 0.87, and their 2.0 cubic foot maximum settles at Qtc 0.74. 0.79 sits in the sweet spot for this driver where midbass impact, transient response, and low-frequency extension all balance.
What amplifier power should I run to this enclosure?
The Kicker CompQ 12 is rated at 1000 watts RMS continuous. For a clean, headroom-rich musical system in this sealed alignment, target 700 to 900 watts RMS at the woofer's impedance. It will happily accept the full 1000 watts but does not require it to sound its best.
How does a wedge enclosure improve the sound in a trunk installation?
The driver mounts on the vertical face at the back of the box and fires rearward into the trunk cavity, using the trunk itself as an extension of the acoustic system. The angled face is on the opposite side, matching the roughly 20 degree lean of a factory rear seat back so the cabinet tucks in with no wasted gap. Firing into the trunk cavity takes advantage of the trunk's natural transfer function, loads the cabin efficiently, and reduces the standing-wave interaction that a flat-front box parallel to the rear seat can produce.
Why is the front baffle double-layered on this enclosure?
All Performance Optimized Series enclosures use a double-layer 1.5 inch front baffle made from two bonded sheets of 3/4 inch Langboard Elite MDF. The Kicker CompQ 12 exerts significant mechanical load into its mounting flange at high output. A single 3/4 inch baffle can flex under that load and telegraph energy back into the cone. The double baffle eliminates that entirely and gives the driver a rigid, isolated mounting platform.
What is the expected low-frequency extension of this enclosure?
At the Qtc 0.79 alignment, the predicted -3 dB point is approximately 46 Hz, with usable output well below that as cabin gain takes over in most vehicles. Effective in-car response typically extends down into the mid to upper 20 Hz range depending on the specific vehicle acoustics.
Do I need to add any additional damping or polyfill to this enclosure?
No additional damping is required. The enclosure ships with polyfill pre-installed to the correct density for the volume and alignment. Adding more polyfill will effectively increase the perceived volume and shift the alignment. Removing it will do the opposite.
Is the Kicker CompQ 12 subwoofer included with this enclosure?
No. This listing is for the enclosure only. Bring your own 51CWQ122 (DVC 2Ω) or 51CWQ124 (DVC 4Ω) driver.
