This enclosure holds 0.80 cu ft net per chamber. In it the ResoNix GUS-12 runs a system Qtc of 0.65–0.70 with half power at 36.7–36.9 Hz, and the cone reaches its 20.0 mm travel limit at 639 W, below the driver’s 800 W thermal rating, so travel is what stops you here, not heat. Run a subsonic filter at 25 Hz and that becomes 1059 W — +421 W, or 66 percent more power for the same 20.0 mm of travel.

01Is it a sealed driver?

Efficiency bandwidth product places the motor before anything else is decided.

At 50.0–51.9 the GUS-12 sits in the transition band, not the sealed band. That is not a mismatch: a transition motor works in either alignment, and sealed buys a smaller box and a gentler roll-off at the cost of some low-end output. Stage 02 shows what this airspace actually does with it.

The box lifts resonance from 14.5 Hz free-air to 34–36 Hz and half power lands at 36.7–36.9 Hz, anechoic, before any cabin gain. This enclosure ships without a driver, so both coil variants the maker offers are plotted. They do not load the same box the same way.

03The watts that reach Xmax (in this enclosure)

Travel scales with the square root of power, so there is one wattage that puts the cone exactly on 20.0 mm — and a bigger one once a subsonic filter stops it wasting travel below the passband.

Every trace touches the limit and no further, because each is drawn at the exact power that puts that coil on 20.0 mm. Unfiltered that is 639 W, reached first at 20 Hz. It sits under the 800 W the driver can take thermally, so the enclosure sets the ceiling, not the voice coil. The dashed traces are the same driver behind a subsonic filter at 25 Hz, 24 dB/oct: stopping the cone wasting travel below the passband lets it take 1059 W before hitting the same 20.0 mm. That is 66 percent more amplifier for the price of one filter setting.

Installer's take

The dual GUS-12 build is a straightforward extension of the single GUS-12: same driver, same enclosure volume target per chamber, same 0.707 Qtc alignment character, double the cone displacement and double the power handling. If you understand the single GUS-12 build, you understand this one. The only material differences are the impedance wiring complexity with two dual-voice-coil drivers and the structural demands of running 1,600 watts RMS combined across two high-excursion 12" drivers in a 7.5-inch-deep enclosure.

The volume math is identical to the single build. ResoNix's 0.707 Qtc target for the GUS-12 is 0.75 cubic feet of net acoustic airspace. Driver displacement is 0.047 cubic feet. Gross chamber volume is 0.75 + 0.047 = 0.797, so each chamber is built to 0.80 cubic feet gross. After each driver is installed, each driver sees 0.75 cubic feet of net acoustic airspace. Exactly what ResoNix specifies. Total gross volume is 1.60 cubic feet across both chambers. Total net acoustic volume is 1.50 cubic feet. The 1.60 figure listed is gross, the 0.75 figure per chamber is what acoustically matters.

The acoustic alignment carries forward from the single build without change. Qts of 0.28 and Fs of 14.54 Hz on both drivers produce the same 0.707 Qtc alignment in each chamber. The dual build produces significantly more output below 30 Hz where 15 inches of cone travel across 490.87 cm² of cone area from each driver adds up. The tonal character is the same as the single GUS-12: flat, extended, low-distortion response engineered for accuracy.

Wiring is the most important pre-order decision with this build. The GUS-12 is a dual voice coil driver, so each driver has two voice coils that must be wired before the two drivers are connected in the final system configuration. The practical recommendation is two D2 drivers, each wired series (producing 4Ω per driver), then both drivers wired in parallel at the terminal cup (producing 2Ω final). This gives you a 2Ω load with manageable voltage and current demands on the amplifier. Two D4 drivers wired parallel per driver (2Ω each), then both drivers in series (4Ω final) is the safest load for amplifier longevity. Work out your target impedance and amplifier selection before choosing the D2 or D4 variant. Changing voice coil configuration after the drivers are mounted is not practical.

At 1,600 watts RMS, both GUS-12 drivers are running at the ceiling of their rated power. A monoblock delivering 1,200–1,600 watts RMS at your final load impedance is the practical target. Run clean, unclipped power. The GUS-12's thermal limits are the ceiling and the ratings are honest. Overpowering these drivers is not covered under ResoNix's warranty.

Questions

Does this enclosure include the ResoNix GUS-12 subwoofers?

No. This is an enclosure-only product. Both ResoNix GUS-12 drivers must be purchased separately from ResoNix Sound Solutions. The enclosure ships with the Proline X terminal cup pre-wired to both driver positions, 8/32 threaded inserts and stainless machine screws for both drivers, polyfill pre-installed in both chambers independently, and rubber feet for downfiring installation.

The listing shows 1.60 cu ft. Is that the volume each driver sees?

No. 1.60 cubic feet is the total gross volume across both chambers. Each chamber is 0.80 cubic feet gross. The GUS-12 has a driver displacement of 0.047 cubic feet. After installation, each driver sees 0.75 cubic feet of net acoustic airspace, which is exactly ResoNix's published 0.707 Qtc target. The 1.60 cu ft figure is the total gross enclosure volume. The acoustically meaningful figure is 0.75 cu ft per driver.103

What is the correct way to wire two GUS-12 drivers in this enclosure?

The GUS-12 is a dual voice coil driver, so each driver has two voice coils that must be wired first before the two drivers are combined. The recommended configuration for most builds is two D2 drivers, each wired in series (producing 4Ω per driver), then both drivers wired in parallel at the terminal cup (producing a 2Ω final load). This balances power output and amplifier compatibility well. Two D4 drivers wired parallel per driver (2Ω each), then both in series (4Ω final) is the safest load. Confirm your amplifier's minimum stable impedance and select the voice coil variant accordingly before ordering. Changing the configuration after installation is not practical.

How does the dual GUS-12 system sound in a vehicle cabin?

Both GUS-12 drivers at 0.707 Qtc produce a flat anechoic response with deep low-frequency extension well below 20 Hz. In a real vehicle cabin, boundary gain below 80 Hz reinforces the drivers' deep extension in the listening position. Running two GUS-12s doubles the cone displacement, producing roughly 3 dB more low-frequency output than a single GUS-12 at equivalent power, with the largest audible gains below 30 Hz where cone displacement is the dominant output variable. The acoustic character is the same as the single build: precise, flat, extended, and low-distortion. Two drivers produce more output while preserving the SQ-oriented character the GUS-12 was designed for.

What amplifier does this system require?

Each GUS-12 is rated at 800 watts RMS for a combined rating of 1,600 watts RMS. Target a monoblock delivering 1,200–1,600 watts RMS at your final load impedance. For the recommended 2Ω configuration (two D2 drivers, each series, then parallel), a monoblock stable at 2Ω delivering 1,200–1,600 watts RMS is the correct pairing. Do not significantly exceed 800 watts RMS per driver, the GUS-12's thermal ratings are honest and overpowering is not covered under warranty.

Why does the dual GUS-12 have only one terminal cup instead of one per chamber?

A single Proline X terminal cup serves both chambers through internal wiring routed to each driver position separately. You connect one amplifier run to the terminal cup and both drivers receive signal. The wiring from the terminal to each driver position handles the internal distribution. No external splicing, Y-connectors, or separate amplifier channels are required. The final impedance at the terminal cup is determined by how the four voice coils across both drivers are wired internally.

How does the dual GUS-12 compare to the single GUS-12 build?

Both builds use the same GUS-12 driver in the same 0.75 cubic foot net acoustic volume per driver. The dual build delivers double the cone displacement and double the combined power handling, 1,600 watts RMS vs 800 watts RMS. Output increases significantly across all bass frequencies, particularly below 30 Hz where cone displacement is the dominant variable. The tonal character, flat 0.707 Qtc alignment requiring active DSP, is identical. If the single GUS-12 provides sufficient output for your application, it is the simpler build. If you need more output and have the available enclosure footprint, the dual build delivers it without changing anything about the acoustic alignment.

Where is this enclosure built?

Every Proline X enclosure is CNC-cut and hand-assembled in Tullahoma, Tennessee on ShopSabre CNC routers. Langboard Elite MDF is used throughout. Chamber volume, divider placement, cutout geometry, dado joint depth, baffle layer count, dowel placement, and terminal positioning are all held to spec on every unit.
