Installer's take

The number that decides this job is 4.75 inches, and it is worth measuring your driver rather than trusting a spec sheet. Published mounting depth is usually quoted to the top of the mounting flange, but the gasket adds height and some frames have a lip that catches on the baffle before the flange seats. If you are within a quarter inch of the limit, dry fit before you commit. A driver that bottoms against the floor of a 5.5 inch cabinet will not seal and you will hear it immediately.

This is a generic box, which means the baffle ships solid and you are drilling your own bolt pattern. Langboard Elite MDF is dense and it will split if you drive screws into it dry. Predrill every hole, use a pilot bit sized for your fastener, and if the install is going to see a driver pulled more than once, run threaded inserts of your own rather than relying on wood screws. Screws into MDF hold well the first time and progressively worse after that. Our Performance Optimized line ships with inserts already set because the bolt circle is known, and that is the tradeoff you are accepting with a generic cabinet.

The 1.75 inch gap under the baffle is the air path, not storage. This is the single most common way a down fire install goes wrong. A spare tire, a jack, a folded blanket, or a cargo mat pressed up against the opening will choke the output and the customer will report that the subwoofer sounds dead. Set the feet where the floor is flat, confirm nothing sits under the cabinet, and if the vehicle has a contoured cargo floor consider running it forward firing instead. The feet ship without predrilled holes specifically so that choice stays open at install time.

Questions

What is the maximum driver mounting depth on the P10-S DF?

4.75 inches. This is a shallow mount enclosure and that number rules out most conventional 10 inch subwoofers, which typically need 5.5 to 7 inches. Check your driver's published mounting depth before ordering. If it needs more than 4.75 inches, the forward fire P10-S allows 6.25 inches and is the better fit.

What is the net internal volume and does it account for the driver?

0.60 cubic feet, physical net, measured after subtracting bracing and typical driver displacement. That is the figure to enter into a modeling program. Polyfill is installed before shipping, which typically makes a sealed box behave as though it were roughly 10 to 15 percent larger. We publish the physical volume rather than the effective one so the number can be verified.

Does this enclosure have threaded inserts for mounting the subwoofer?

No. This is a generic enclosure sized by driver diameter, so we do not know which subwoofer is going in and cannot machine a bolt pattern for it. The baffle ships as a solid mounting flange and you drill your own holes to match your driver. Threaded inserts are a feature of the Performance Optimized line, where the enclosure is cut for one named subwoofer and the bolt circle is drawn in CAD from the actual driver. The MDF is dense, so predrill your mounting holes.

Can I run this enclosure forward firing instead of down firing?

Yes. The four feet ship without predrilled mounting holes specifically so the enclosure is not locked into one orientation. Mount them where your floor wants them for down fire use, or leave them off entirely and run the cabinet forward firing. The acrylic badge is mounted on the front face rather than the woofer face so it stays visible either way.

How much clearance does the enclosure need underneath it?

The feet set a 1.75 inch air gap between the baffle and the floor, and that gap is the air path rather than empty room. Keep it clear. A spare tire, a toolbox, or a folded moving blanket pressed against the opening will choke the output. Down fire systems that sound dead almost always have something jammed underneath them.

Which 10 inch subwoofers actually fit this enclosure?

Any 10 inch driver with a 9.25 inch cutout and a mounting depth of 4.75 inches or less. In practice that means shallow mount and slim profile models. Most conventional 10 inch subwoofers need between 5.5 and 7 inches and will not fit. Measure your driver rather than trusting the published figure, because gasket thickness and frame lips can add height beyond what the spec sheet quotes. If your driver needs more depth, our forward fire P10-S allows 6.25 inches.

Are the feet included, and do they need to be drilled?

Four feet ship with every Performance Down Fire enclosure at no extra cost. They are machined in house from ABS and carbon fiber composite on the same equipment as our terminal cups, and they provide 1.75 inches of lift. They arrive without predrilled mounting holes, which is deliberate. You set them where your vehicle floor is flat, or leave them off entirely and run the cabinet forward firing. Cabinet height is 5.5 inches alone and 7.25 inches with the feet fitted.

What is the warranty and where is the enclosure built?

Performance Down Fire enclosures carry a 1 year limited warranty on craftsmanship and materials. Every one is CNC cut and assembled to order in our own shop in Tullahoma, Tennessee from Langboard Elite MDF, with V groove and dado joinery and internal bracing. Nothing is outsourced and nothing sits on a shelf, which is why lead time is quoted per order rather than shipped same day.
