Installer's take

Six inches of mounting depth opens this up to a much wider range of 12s than the 10 inch version allows, but the constraint moves rather than disappearing. At 29.5 inches wide by 14.54 deep, the footprint is what will decide most installs. Measure the cargo area floor before you measure the driver. A 12 inch down fire cabinet needs a flat run of floor nearly two and a half feet across, and wheel wells, seat tracks, and spare tire humps eat into that faster than people expect.

Net volume is 1.1 cubic feet with an 11.13 inch cutout, and the baffle is single thickness because this is a generic cabinet sized by diameter. That matters for two reasons. You are drilling your own mounting holes, so predrill and do not drive screws dry into the MDF. And a 12 inch driver moving real air in a shallow cabinet puts more load on a single baffle than a 10 does, so torque your fasteners evenly in a star pattern and check them after the first few weeks of use. A baffle that works loose on one side will buzz long before it fails.

With the feet installed the cabinet stands 8.5 inches tall and clears the floor by 1.75 inches. Keep that gap open. In practice the best results come from setting this against a rear seat back or bulkhead with the long dimension running across the vehicle, which puts the driver over open floor rather than over a wheel well. If the only flat run available is directly over a spare tire well, run the cabinet forward firing instead and leave the feet off. The box works either way and the feet ship undrilled so you can decide on site.

Questions

What is the maximum driver mounting depth on the P12-S DF?

6 inches. That works for a good number of 12 inch drivers, but plenty of high excursion 12s need 7 inches or more and will not fit. Check your driver's published mounting depth before ordering. If it needs more than 6 inches, the forward fire P12-S is the better choice.

What is the net internal volume and does it account for the driver?

1.00 cubic foot, physical net, measured after subtracting bracing and typical driver displacement. That is the figure to enter into a modeling program. Polyfill is installed before shipping, which typically makes a sealed box behave as though it were roughly 10 to 15 percent larger, so this cabinet tends to act like 1.10 to 1.15 cubic feet in practice. We publish the physical volume rather than the effective one so the number can be verified.

Does this enclosure have threaded inserts for mounting the subwoofer?

No. This is a generic enclosure sized by driver diameter, so we do not know which subwoofer is going in and cannot machine a bolt pattern for it. The baffle ships as a solid mounting flange and you drill your own holes to match your driver. Threaded inserts are a feature of the Performance Optimized line, where the enclosure is cut for one named subwoofer and the bolt circle is drawn in CAD from the actual driver. The MDF is dense, so predrill your mounting holes.

Can I run this enclosure forward firing instead of down firing?

Yes. The four feet ship without predrilled mounting holes specifically so the enclosure is not locked into one orientation. Mount them where your floor wants them for down fire use, or leave them off entirely and run the cabinet forward firing. The acrylic badge is mounted on the front face rather than the woofer face so it stays visible either way.

How much clearance does the enclosure need underneath it?

The feet set a 1.75 inch air gap between the baffle and the floor, and that gap is the air path rather than empty room. Keep it clear. A spare tire, a toolbox, or a folded moving blanket pressed against the opening will choke the output. Down fire systems that sound dead almost always have something jammed underneath them.

Which 12 inch subwoofers actually fit this enclosure?

Any 12 inch driver with an 11.13 inch cutout and a mounting depth of 6 inches or less. That is considerably more permissive than the 10 inch version of this enclosure and covers a wide range of standard depth 12s, not only shallow mount models. Check your driver's published mounting depth against 6 inches, and allow for gasket thickness if you are close to the limit.
