Performance in this enclosure

Installer's take
The Alpine RS-W10D4 is a fundamentally different driver than the JL TW3 and Wavtech builds in this series, and the acoustic story in this enclosure reflects that. A Qts of 1.19 is high. Well above the 0.4–0.7 range of the SQ-oriented drivers in this lineup. High Qts in a sealed enclosure means the driver produces a naturally elevated Qtc, which translates to a warm, punchy bass character with strong efficiency in the 50–80 Hz range. This is not a driver that needs DSP to sound good in a compact sealed box. It is a daily-driver built to hit hard and sound full at volume.Alpine's published sealed volume targets for the RS-W10D4 are 0.54 cu ft (-3dB at 32 Hz), 0.79 cu ft (-3dB at 30 Hz), and 1.04 cu ft (-3dB at 28 Hz). This enclosure runs 0.50 cu ft. Just below the smallest published target. In acoustic terms, this pushes the effective Qtc slightly higher and shifts the -3dB point upward by a small amount. In practical terms, the difference between 0.50 and 0.54 cu ft in a daily-driver compact install is not audible. The bass will be warm, impactful, and efficient at volume. If you want the deeper anechoic extension of the larger volume targets, those enclosure sizes are not compatible with the Micro Series depth constraint, and the RS-W10D4's high Qts means the upper-bass impact in this 0.50 cu ft build is the driver doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Questions
Alpine publishes a 0.54 cu ft sealed target. Why does this enclosure run 0.50?
Alpine publishes three sealed volume targets for the RS-W10D4 ranging from 0.54 to 1.04 cubic feet. This enclosure delivers 0.50 cubic feet. Slightly below the smallest published target. The RS-W10D4 has a high Qts of 1.19, which means its system Qtc in any sealed enclosure will be elevated above neutral. At 0.50 cubic feet the Qtc is slightly higher than at 0.54, which produces a warm, upper-bass-forward response that suits daily-driver installs where impact and efficiency at listening volumes matter more than deep anechoic extension. The real-world difference between 0.50 and 0.54 cubic feet with this driver is not audible in a vehicle cabin. The larger volume targets Alpine lists (0.79 and 1.04 cu ft) provide deeper extension but require enclosure depths incompatible with the Micro Series format.
What does a high Qts of 1.19 mean for how this driver sounds?
Qts is a measure of total system damping. A high Qts means the driver is lightly damped. It produces a naturally elevated low-frequency response in a sealed enclosure before rolling off, rather than rolling off flat at the box resonance. In practical terms, the RS-W10D4 in a compact sealed box produces warm, impactful bass with strong output in the 50–80 Hz range that most listeners associate with impactful daily-driver sound. It does not require DSP to produce a pleasing in-cabin response the way a low-Qts SQ driver does. This is a deliberately different character than the JL TW3 or Wavtech thinPRO builds in this series. Both of which have lower Qts values and flatter sealed responses.
Will this fit behind or under the seat of my truck?
At 5.25" total depth, 21.5" wide, and 14.5" tall, this enclosure fits behind the seat in most full-size crew cab and extended cab trucks including the Ford F-150, F-250, Silverado, Sierra, Ram 1500, and Ram 2500. It also fits under the rear seat in many extended cab configurations. Seat floor clearance varies by model and trim. Measure the available depth at both the front and rear of the install location before purchasing.
How do I wire the RS-W10D4's dual 4-ohm voice coils?
The RS-W10D4 has two separate 4-ohm voice coils. Wire both coils in parallel, connect positive to positive and negative to negative across both coils, to present a 2-ohm load to your amplifier. Wire both coils in series, connect the positive of one coil to the negative of the other, then use the remaining terminals as your output, to present an 8-ohm load. Most builds run parallel at 2 ohms into a 2-ohm-stable monoblock. Confirm your amplifier's minimum stable impedance before wiring.
What amplifier power does the RS-W10D4 require?
The Alpine RS-W10D4 is rated at 600 watts RMS with a recommended amplifier range of 300–600 watts RMS. For the D4 wired to 2 ohms, a monoblock stable at 2 ohms in the 400–600 watt RMS range is the practical target. The RS-W10D4's high Qts and neodymium motor system produce audible output even from moderately powered amplifiers. It is a forgiving driver to match. Do not significantly exceed 600 watts RMS at the final impedance to avoid thermal damage.
Can I run this enclosure downfiring?
Yes. Rubber feet for downfiring are included. No additional hardware required. The RS-W10D4 uses a standard round flange that seals cleanly against the baffle gasket in either orientation. Downfiring in truck cab installs couples bass output with the vehicle floor, which reinforces the low-frequency response and works particularly well with the RS-W10D4's warm, upper-bass-forward character in this enclosure size.
What makes this enclosure different from a generic thin-box enclosure for the RSW10?
Generic thin enclosures for the RS-W10D4 are built to approximate internal volumes without controlled tolerances, assembled with single-layer panels and glue-only joints, and sold as universal fits across multiple driver models. This enclosure is machined to the RS-W10D4's specific cutout geometry, built to a controlled 0.50 cubic foot net volume, and uses double-layer stack-fab Langboard Elite MDF panels reinforced with dowels and dado joinery throughout. The Proline X terminal cup is pre-wired with 12-gauge OFC internally. Threaded inserts rather than wood screws mount the driver. Every structural element is built to hold its geometry and acoustic seal under 600 watts RMS for the life of the installation.
Where is this enclosure built?
Every Proline X enclosure is CNC-cut and hand-assembled in Tullahoma, Tennessee on ShopSabre CNC routers. Langboard Elite MDF is used throughout, a named, mill-documented panel with published density, internal bond, and screw-holding specifications. Internal volume, cutout geometry, dado joint depth, baffle layer count, dowel placement, and terminal positioning are all held to spec on every unit. Proline X is the enclosure brand owned and manufactured by Audio Intensity.
